The Tektronix P5200, P5205, and P5210 High Voltage Differential Probes are active differential probes that let users safely make measurements of floating circuits while keeping the oscilloscope grounded. Each probe converts floating signals into low-voltage, ground-referenced signals that can be displayed safely and easily on any ground-referenced oscilloscope. The P5200 can be used with any oscilloscope; the P5205 and P5210 connect to Tektronix oscilloscopes through the TEKPROBE interface or to any oscilloscope by way of the 1103 TEKPROBE Power Supply.
These probes are built for floating measurements in power-electronics work. Listed applications include switching power supply design, motor drive design, electronic ballast design, CRT display design, power converter design and service, and power device evaluation. The P5205, a 100 MHz active differential probe, is designed to capture fast rise times in floating circuits and can safely measure voltages in IGBT circuits such as motor drives and power converters.
ValueTronics stocks this equipment in our own 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive, Elgin, Illinois. Every pre-owned unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer.
Tektronix, Inc. has retained its brand name throughout its corporate history. It was acquired by Danaher Corporation in 2007 and became part of Fortive Corporation when Fortive was spun off from Danaher in 2016.
The P5200, P5205, and P5210 make up Tektronix's High Voltage Differential Probe family. All three are active differential probes that convert floating signals into low-voltage, ground-referenced signals so they can be displayed safely on a grounded oscilloscope, and all three offer switchable attenuation and a switchable bandwidth limit.
Within the family the models differ in bandwidth, differential and common mode voltage ratings, attenuation factors, input resistance, and power source. The P5200 operates from an AC wall adapter and works with any oscilloscope, while the P5205 and P5210 are powered from the TEKPROBE Power Supply and connect through the Tektronix TEKPROBE interface.
Each model below is its own dedicated product page with pre-owned-matched pricing. Select the model that fits your bandwidth and voltage requirements, then choose the listing that matches the condition you need.
The P5200 is the most broadly compatible member of the family: it runs from an AC wall adapter and can be used with any ground-referenced oscilloscope, rather than requiring the TEKPROBE interface used by the P5205 and P5210.
The clearest differences are bandwidth and voltage. Bandwidth is 25 MHz on the P5200, 100 MHz on the P5205, and 50 MHz on the P5210. The P5210 carries the highest voltage ratings — 4400 V differential (RMS or DC), 5600 V differential peak, and 2200 V CAT II / 1000 V CAT III common mode — while the P5200 and P5205 are each rated 1000 V CAT II differential, 1300 V differential peak, and 1000 V CAT II / 600 V CAT III common mode. See the comparison table for the full row-by-row figures.
Attenuation, input resistance, and power source also vary. The P5200 and P5205 use 50X/500X switchable attenuation with 4 MΩ input resistance per input, whereas the P5210 uses 100X/1000X attenuation with 8 MΩ input resistance per input. The P5200 is powered by an AC wall adapter; the P5205 and P5210 are powered by the TEKPROBE Power Supply. CMRR (80 dB / 50 dB typical) and 7 pF input capacitance are shared across all three.
| Model | Bandwidth | Max Differential Voltage (Peak) | Max Common Mode Voltage |
|---|---|---|---|
| P5210 | 50 MHz | 5600 V | 2200 V CAT II |
| P5200 | 25 MHz | 1300 V | 1000 V CAT II |
| P5205 | 100 MHz | 1300 V | 1000 V CAT II |
Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Important: WARNING: For safe operation, do not use the P5200 High Voltage Differential Probe with oscilloscopes that have floating inputs (isolated inputs), such as the Tektronix TPS2000 Series and THS700 Series. The P5200 requires an oscilloscope or other measurement instrument with grounded inputs.
Important: The RMS value of the waveform shall not exceed the Common Mode Voltage (RMS) for either lead.
Important: TDS7154B, TDS7254B, TDS7404B, TDS6404, TDS6604, CSA7154, and CSA7404B require a TCA-1MEG Buffer Amplifier.
Important: The P5205 and P5210 are powered through the oscilloscope's TEKPROBE interface. For use with an oscilloscope that does not have a TEKPROBE interface, the 1103 TEKPROBE Power Supply (order 1103) is required and is not included with the probe.
