The Agilent N6700 Low-Profile Modular Power System (MPS) is a 1U-high, multiple-output programmable DC power supply and electronic load system. It lets test system integrators mix and match from over 30 different DC power and electronic load modules to build a one- to four-channel system optimized to match specific test needs, balancing performance, power, and price.
Power supplies and electronic loads are a fundamental component of every test system across aerospace and defense, consumer electronics, computers and peripherals, communications, semiconductor, and automotive electronics. The N6700 is built for automatic test equipment (ATE) systems in R&D, design validation, and manufacturing, where designers must reduce the rack space occupied by multiple supplies or loads while increasing test system throughput. Within the family, precision modules are suited to semiconductor and passive device testing, while the source/measure unit modules support applications such as battery drain analysis and functional test.
The same modules also run in the Agilent N6705 DC Power Analyzer, which combines one to four DC power supply or electronic load modules with the functions of a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, arbitrary waveform generator, and data logger in a single integrated instrument. Installed in an N6705 mainframe, modules gain front-panel scope view, arbitrary waveform generation, and data logging not present in the lower-profile N6700-series mainframes, with all functions run from the front panel and no programming required.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own test-and-measurement inventory in a 20,000 square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. Every pre-owned unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer. Keeping inventory on hand and verifying used units in our own facility means an order can be filled quickly and with confidence in the unit's condition.
These instruments are branded Agilent Technologies. Agilent Technologies was formed in 1999 as a spin-off of Hewlett-Packard's test and measurement business; that electronic measurement business was subsequently established as Keysight Technologies in 2014. Equipment originally branded Agilent is part of that continuous corporate lineage.
Replaces: per the manufacturer, this model replaces 6621A, 6622A, 6623A, 6624A, 6625A, 6626A, 6627A, 6628A, 6629A.
The N6700 Modular Power System pairs a choice of mainframe with an extensive catalog of interchangeable DC power and electronic load modules. The low-profile mainframes — the 400 W N6700B, the 600 W N6701A, and the 1200 W N6702A — each hold one to four modules and are aimed at automated test environments, while the four-slot N6705 DC Power Analyzer brings the same module catalog to the R&D bench at 600 W of total available power. The system can be purchased as a mainframe plus separate modules for self-assembly, or as a build-to-order N6710B, N6711A, or N6712A system (or N6715B/N6715C for the DC Power Analyzer) shipped fully assembled with one to four modules installed. Because the same modules run in both the bench analyzers and the low-profile ATE mainframes, test correlation and program sharing between R&D and manufacturing are possible.
The modules fall into distinct series: the basic N6730 (50 W), N6740 (100 W), and N6770 (300 W) DC power modules (clean, economical DC power up to 150 V and up to 20 A), the N6750 high-performance autoranging and N6760 precision modules (to 500 W up to 60 V and 50 A, with autoranging outputs delivering maximum power across a range of voltage and current combinations), the N6780 source/measure units, the N6783 application-specific modules, and the N6790 electronic loads. The precision series further provides dual programming and measurement ranges with 16-bit programming and 18-bit measurement precision, low milliampere- and microampere-range measurement, and simultaneous voltage and current digitizing. The N6780 SMUs add two- and four-quadrant operation at up to 80 W, battery emulator/charger and CC/CV load functions, and highly accurate measurements down to nanoamperes. The application-specific N6783A modules (18 W to 24 W) target battery charge/discharge for mobile-device designers and DC power for testing battery-powered mobile devices. The N6790 electronic loads offer 100 W and 200 W modules with constant voltage, current, resistance, and power priority modes and programmable slew rates.
Each pre-owned model linked below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing; select the mainframe or module that matches your channel count, output rating, and interface needs. The mainframes differ primarily in total available output power — 400 W, 600 W, and 1200 W — with slot-occupancy, AC-line scaling, and cross-mainframe sequencing details noted below. The comparison table that follows summarizes the headline ratings.

Important: DC power and electronic load modules are not standalone instruments; they require an N6700B/N6701A/N6702A (or N6700C/N6701C/N6702C) Modular Power System mainframe or an N6705 DC Power Analyzer (N6705A/N6705B/N6705C) mainframe to operate, and are ordered separately from the mainframe. At least one module is required for the system to function. The basic capabilities of a power module depend not only on its own hardware but also on the hardware and firmware of the mainframe in which it is installed.
Important: Output terminal isolation: no output terminal may be more than ±240 VDC from any other terminal or chassis ground. When using the auxiliary measurement input terminals on the N6781A, no output or input terminal may be more than ±60 VDC from any other terminal and chassis ground.
Important: Maximum series operation is 240 V; maximum rated parallel operation is 100 A per N6705 mainframe.
Important: Each module occupies one module slot, except the double-wide N6753A–N6756A and N6763A–N6766A modules, the N6785A–N6786A SMUs, and the N6792A load, which each occupy two of the four mainframe slots.
Important: The mainframe's total available output power is 600 W (low-profile mainframes provide 400 W, 600 W, or 1200 W). If the sum of the installed module power exceeds the mainframe's available output power, the power management feature allocates available power to the outputs where it is needed.
Important: Installing a 500 W module in the 400 W N6700B (or N6700C) mainframe may prevent that module from running at its full rated output power.
Important: For proper operation, you must fill any empty module slots with filler panels. When configuring a mainframe with fewer than four filled module slots, you must order a filler panel kit (N6708A); each kit contains three filler panels.
Important: If you will be rack mounting the N6700, you must order the rack mount kit (option 908 / N6709A / N6709C). Standard rack mount hardware, rails, or slides will not work and are not compatible because of the unit's 1U size and airflow requirements.
Important: For modules with outputs rated greater than 20 A, such as the N6753A or N6792A, high-current wires must be routed through the N6705's rear panel; the N6705B mainframe provides rear-panel access ports for this (for an N6705A mainframe, order N6705U-057 to replace the rear panel).
Important: Option 760 (Output Disconnect/Polarity Reversal Relays) limits the output current to 10 A maximum on Models N6742B and N6773A, and is not available on Models N6741B, N6751A, N6752A, N6761A, N6762A, and N6781A–N6786A.
Important: Option 2UA (200 µA measurement range) is available only on Models N6761A and N6762A.
Important: Option LGA (large-size FPGA) must be ordered on the N6751A and N6752A modules; it is required to support output sequencing between multiple mainframes.
Important: Output sequencing synchronization across multiple mainframes is supported on the N6700B, N6701A, and N6702A mainframes; it is not supported on the discontinued N6700A mainframe.
Important: For the N6702A 1200 W mainframe (and N6712A system), the maximum output power is limited to 600 W at 100–120 VAC; AC mains circuits rated at 100–180 VAC cannot supply enough current to run the mainframe at full rated power, so internal circuits limit the power available to modules to 600 W maximum at that input. To achieve full output power of 1200 W you must use option 929 and operate at 200–240 VAC.
Important: N6783A modules cannot be used in series with other N6783A modules or any other N67xx module.
Important: When sinking power, Model N6784A can operate at the maximum rated output power for only a limited amount of time; the unit monitors internal power device temperature and latches the output off if the safe limit is exceeded (annunciated by the OT status bit; a protect clear is required to resume operation).
Important: The N6791A and N6792A Electronic Load Modules are not supported on the previous mainframes N6700B, N6701A, N6702A, N6705A, and N6705B.
Important: New modules N6753A and N6754A require mainframe firmware version C.02.00 or greater (available at www.agilent.com/find/N6700firmware). If you add modules with model numbers N673xA, N673xB, N674xA, N674xB, N6753A, N6754A or N677xA to an N672xA, you will not be able to access the Agilent 662x command set for any installed modules; only SCPI commands will be accepted.
Important: This product page does not include a comprehensive list of all power module specifications. Performance specifications for the N6780 Series 2-quadrant SMU modules (N6781A, N6782A) are in the N6780 Series Source/Measure Units (SMUs) for the N6700 Modular Power System Data Sheet, literature number 5990-5829EN; complete performance specifications and supplemental characteristics for all power modules are in the N6700 Modular Power System Family Specifications Guide, part number N6700-90001.
Recommended pairing: add the Agilent 14585A Control and Analysis Software (or the BV9200B PathWave BenchVue Advanced Power Control and Analysis Software) to control the family's DC power and electronic load modules in up to four N6705 mainframes — as many as 16 installed modules — from a single PC.
