The Extech MO55W is a wireless datalogging pin/pinless moisture meter designed to measure moisture content in wood and a range of building materials. The instrument provides two distinct measurement methods in a single handheld unit: a non-invasive Pinless capacitance-sensing mode that reads to a maximum depth of 1 inch (25 mm), and a Direct Pin electrical-resistance method using approximately 0.4 inch (10 mm) pins. A Bluetooth datalogging module (DAT12) and the free ExView W-Series mobile application extend the meter beyond standalone use, allowing readings to be streamed in real time to a paired smart device, stored for later analysis, and combined with photos and notes taken from the smart device camera.
Per the datasheet, the MO55W is suited to building restoration and to applications where detection of moisture in flooring, tiles, and beneath carpeting is critical. The instrument measures moisture in wood as well as wall board, sheet rock, cardboard, plaster, concrete, and mortar. Icon indicators display low, medium, and high moisture ranges, and an audible alert with a beep rate that increases as moisture rises gives the operator immediate feedback without requiring constant attention to the display. The meter is identified by the datasheet as appropriate for technicians and inspectors who need to document moisture conditions across multiple surface types during a single site visit.
