The Agilent U1600A Series is a family of handheld digital oscilloscopes built around a three-in-one design: a dual-channel oscilloscope, a true RMS digital multimeter, and a real-time data logger combined in a single portable instrument. The series consists of two models — the U1602A with 20 MHz bandwidth and the U1604A with 40 MHz bandwidth — each offering a real-time sampling rate up to 200 MSa/s and a 4.5-inch color LCD that clearly distinguishes waveforms between two channels.

Positioned as a high-performance troubleshooting and quality-assurance tool for technical professionals, the U1600A Series targets the installation, maintenance, service, and automotive industries. Its handheld form factor and combined scope-plus-meter capability suit work in demanding industrial environments where capturing signal deviations, glitches, and dropouts quickly matters. The Dual Waveform Math function supports signal addition and subtraction across channels for quick analysis in the time domain, with Fast Fourier Transform analysis available on the 40 MHz model for frequency-domain work.

ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000-square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, giving buyers a single accountable source for both new and pre-owned test instruments. Every used unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units leave factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer. Holding stock on our own shelves means faster fulfillment and direct visibility into the equipment we sell.

Brand Heritage

This instrument carries Agilent Technologies branding. Agilent Technologies was spun off from Hewlett-Packard in 1999, and Agilent's electronic measurement business was later established as Keysight Technologies in 2014. Instruments from this period are commonly encountered under any of these names depending on their production date.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The U1600A Series comprises two handheld digital oscilloscope models that share a common three-in-one architecture — oscilloscope, true RMS DMM, and real-time data logger — and differ primarily in bandwidth. The U1602A is the 20 MHz model and the U1604A is the 40 MHz model, with each delivering real-time sampling up to 200 MSa/s and 125 kilobytes of memory per channel.

Both models share the same 4.5-inch color display, 6000-count DMM with 11 measurement functions, advanced triggering set, and USB 2.0 connectivity. The choice between them centers on bandwidth and the additional frequency-domain analysis the higher-bandwidth model provides.

Each model below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Compare the bandwidth tiers, then select the pre-owned unit that fits your application and budget.

The U1604A is the 40 MHz model in the series and is the only model equipped with the Fast Fourier Transform function, which displays waveforms in the frequency domain using four windowing techniques (Rectangular, Hanning, Hamming, and Blackman-Harris). It also provides an equivalent-time sampling rate of 2.5 GSa/s and a finer horizontal resolution of 400 ps.

Across the series, the defining difference is bandwidth: the U1602A is specified at DC to 20 MHz, while the U1604A reaches DC to 40 MHz. This is reflected in rise time — under 17.5 ns on the U1602A versus under 8.8 ns on the U1604A — and in single-shot bandwidth of 20 MHz and 40 MHz respectively.

The U1604A additionally offers the FFT frequency-domain analysis function, a 2.5 GSa/s equivalent sampling rate, and a finer timebase resolution (400 ps versus 2 ns) with a horizontal range starting at 10 ns/div rather than 50 ns/div. Both models otherwise share the same 200 MSa/s real-time sampling, 125 kB/channel memory, DMM, and data-logging capabilities. See the comparison table for the full model-by-model breakdown.

Model Bandwidth Rise Time Timebase Resolution
U1604A 40 MHz < 8.8 ns 400 ps
U1602A 20 MHz < 17.5 ns 2 ns

Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.
