The R&S SMB100A is an RF and microwave signal generator built by Rohde & Schwarz. It is configured as a common base unit paired with one RF-path/frequency option that sets the instrument's frequency coverage, generating continuous-wave and modulated signals across a span that reaches from 9 kHz at the low end up to 40 GHz at the top, depending on the installed option. It is a benchtop instrument offered in variants with an electronic step attenuator, a mechanical step attenuator, or without a step attenuator (the latter carrying a limited level-setting and specified level range).
A signal generator produces known, controllable test signals used to stimulate a device under test so its response can be measured. On the SMB100A, the optional pulse train capability allows pulses and pulse sequences to be user-defined to generate jittered or staggered pulse scenarios of the kind used in radar applications. With the optional stereo/RDS coder, the instrument generates stereo multiplex and RDS signals for RF frequencies in the 66 MHz to 110 MHz range.
ValueTronics stocks this instrument in our own 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois - we are a stocking specialist. Every pre-owned unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer.
Rohde & Schwarz is an independent, privately held electronics company headquartered in Munich, Germany, founded more than 80 years ago. It has operated under the Rohde & Schwarz name without a major corporate rename or acquisition-driven rebrand.

Important: Maximum permissible reverse RF power for instruments with reverse power protection: 50 W (1 MHz to 1 GHz), 25 W (1 GHz to 2 GHz), 10 W (2 GHz to 12.75 GHz). Maximum permissible DC voltage: 35 V.
Important: The base unit (R&S®SMB100A) must be ordered together with an R&S®SMB-B101/-B102/-B103/-B106/-B112/-B112L/-B120/-B120L/-B131/-B140/-B140L/-B140N frequency option — the base unit is not usable without a frequency option (which determines the RF frequency range, attenuator type, RF connector, weight and depth).
Important: Only one of the R&S®SMB-B1 or R&S®SMB-B1H reference oscillator option can be installed.
Important: The R&S®SMB-B5 Stereo/RDS coder is only available with an R&S®SMB-B101/-B102/-B103/-B106 frequency option.
Important: The R&S®SMB-K27 Pulse Train option requires the R&S®SMB-K23 option and is only available for instruments with serial number > 102400.
Important: Serial RS-232 remote control requires the R&S®TS-USB1 serial adapter (recommended extra).
Recommended pairing: connect an R&S NRP-Zxx power sensor via the R&S NRP-Z4 USB adapter cable for external power measurements and level adjustment of the instrument.
