A power quality analyzer captures and characterizes the behavior of an electrical supply — voltage, current, power, harmonics, and flicker — so field personnel can document supply quality and trace the source of disturbances. The HIOKI PQ3198 and PQ3100 are power quality analyzers built to reliably capture the full range of power supply anomalies and to analyze the underlying data, with ease of use across the entire workflow from connecting the instrument to recording data. Both comply with IEC 61000-4-30 Ed. 3 — the PQ3198 to Class A and the PQ3100 to Class S — and both ship with the PQ ONE analytical software for reviewing and reporting on the recorded data.

Listed applications span grid-connection and field-service work. Both instruments record fluctuations in voltage, current, power, harmonics, and flicker when connecting a highly variable system such as a renewable energy source or EV charging station to the grid, and they capture momentary interruptions, voltage drops, and frequency fluctuations while recording trends to investigate the causes of unexpected equipment malfunctions and sudden stoppages. The PQ3198 is applied to investigating power supply anomalies, verifying the quality of power from a solar power system, and verifying the power supplied by an EV rapid charger. The PQ3100 is applied to investigating power supply conditions before and after installing new electrical equipment, preventing problems through repeated measurement of components such as elevator motors, and performing load rejection testing of solar power systems.

ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, which keeps fulfillment and condition control under one roof. That combination lets buyers source power quality instrumentation with confidence in both availability and condition.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The POWER QUALITY ANALYZER series pairs a high-end model, the PQ3198, with a mid-range model, the PQ3100. Both are designed to reliably capture the full range of power supply anomalies and to analyze the underlying causes, and both bundle the PQ ONE analytical software for data review and reporting.

The two models share a common measurement foundation — four voltage and four current channels, recording of trend data with event waveforms, automatic current-sensor detection, and SD card recording — while differing in their IEC 61000-4-30 Ed. 3 compliance class and in several capture and analysis capabilities described below and in the comparison table.

Each model below links to its own dedicated new product page with condition-matched pricing. Choose the model that fits your measurement requirements, then select the new unit on that model's page to see its availability and price.

The PQ3198 is the high-end model and offers an extensive range of event parameters, making it suited to troubleshooting-related measurement since it can capture a variety of power supply anomalies. It complies with IEC 61000-4-30 Ed. 3 Class A and can measure power and efficiency across two circuits carrying different voltages, such as a 3-phase circuit and a DC circuit.

The PQ3198 complies with IEC 61000-4-30 Ed. 3 Class A, supports a DC/50/60/400 Hz fundamental frequency, measures transient voltage to 6 kV at 2 MS/s, measures high-order harmonics from 2 kHz to 80 kHz, performs two-circuit power and efficiency measurement with CH 1/2/3 isolated from CH 4, and carries a maximum rated terminal-to-ground voltage of 600 V (CAT IV) with about 3 hours of battery operation. The PQ3100 complies with IEC 61000-4-30 Class S, supports a DC/50/60 Hz fundamental frequency, measures transient voltage to 2.2 kV at 200 kS/s, and does not provide efficiency, high-order harmonic, or two-circuit power measurement.

The PQ3100 adds capabilities oriented toward field setup and longer captures: the QUICK SET navigation function, event waveforms recorded for up to 1 second before and 10 seconds after an event, event statistics processing, 200 ms/600 ms recording intervals, and about 8 hours of battery operation, with a maximum rated terminal-to-ground voltage of 1000 V (CAT III) or 600 V (CAT IV). Refer to the comparison table for the per-model values of each parameter.

Model IEC 61000-4-30 Class Max Input Voltage Transient Voltage
PQ3100 Class S 1000 V AC/DC, 2200 Vpeak ±2.200 kVpeak (200 kS/s)
PQ3198 Class A 1000 V AC, ±600 V DC, 6000 Vpeak ±6.000 kVpeak (2 MS/s)
PQ3198-92 Class A 1000 V AC, ±600 V DC, 6000 Vpeak ±6.000 kVpeak (2 MS/s)
PQ3198-94 Class A 1000 V AC, ±600 V DC, 6000 Vpeak ±6.000 kVpeak (2 MS/s)

Important: Use genuine HIOKI SD memory cards; use of other SD memory cards may prevent data from being properly saved or loaded.
Important: Current sensors are not supplied with the base PQ3198/PQ3100 instrument and must be ordered separately. Select the appropriate AC or AC/DC current sensor for your application (see Options).
Important: For DC measurement, an AC/DC Auto-Zero Current Sensor is required.
Important: Sensor power is supplied by the instrument, so no external AC adapter is needed when using AC/DC sensors or flexible sensors.
Important: If the instrument is equipped with a BATTERY PACK Z1003 with remaining charge, it will switch automatically to battery power and continue recording during a power outage. If no charged battery is installed, measurement stops (settings preserved) and recording restarts when power is restored; however, integrated values and other data will be reset.
Important: The PQ3100's Bluetooth connection requires a serial-to-Bluetooth wireless conversion adapter recommended by HIOKI; contact your HIOKI distributor for details.
Important: IEC 61000-4-30 Ed. 3 Class A compliance for the PQ3198 requires the V.2.00 software update.
