The Keysight N6705C is a DC power analyzer mainframe at the heart of the N6700 Modular Power System family. It combines one to four DC power supply or electronic load modules with the functions of a DMM, oscilloscope, arbitrary waveform generator, and data logger in a single integrated instrument that sources and measures DC voltage and current into a device under test. Keysight positions it as an entirely new instrument category for R&D engineers, with all sourcing, loading, and measurement functions available directly from the front panel.

The N6705C is intended for R&D testing and design validation. Engineers use it to gain insight into a device's power consumption without writing code, to set up and view critical turn-on and turn-off sequences, to control DC bias supply or electronic load ramp-up and ramp-down rates, and to generate DC bias transients and disturbances. It can capture inrush current by triggering the integrated oscilloscope on the output's on/off key, and it can log current and power consumption over seconds, minutes, hours, or days to capture anomalies. While designed primarily as an R&D bench tool, it also serves ATE systems for test development, DUT troubleshooting, and visualizing results as tests execute.

Brand Heritage

Keysight Technologies traces its measurement heritage to Hewlett-Packard, whose test and measurement business was spun off as Agilent Technologies in 1999. The Keysight N6700 Modular Power System family is built around a mainframe with four module slots and a selection of more than thirty DC power and electronic load modules. The N6705C is the DC power analyzer mainframe ordered together with modules as separate items, while the N6715C is the build-to-order version shipped fully assembled with one to four modules installed. Both share 600 W of total available mainframe power and the same module catalog.

Modules fall into several series: basic DC power modules, high-performance autoranging modules, precision modules, application-specific source/measure units, and electronic loads. The N6705C is the mainframe-plus-modules configuration: you order the N6705C mainframe and choose one to four modules separately, then assemble the system yourself. It provides four module slots, 600 W of total available output power, and full front-panel operation of the integrated DMM, oscilloscope, arbitrary waveform generator, and data logger functions.

The module series differ chiefly in performance and rating. Basic DC power modules cover 50 W, 100 W, and 300 W outputs up to 150 V and up to 20 A. High-performance autoranging modules span 50 W to 500 W up to 60 V and up to 50 A and add autoranging outputs that deliver maximum power across a range of voltage and current combinations. Precision modules likewise reach 500 W and add precise control and measurement in the milliampere and microampere region with simultaneous voltage and current digitizing.

Application-specific source/measure units provide up to 80 W with two- or four-quadrant operation, and the N6790 electronic loads offer 100 W and 200 W modules with constant voltage, current, resistance, and power modes.
