The Anritsu MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer is a modular Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) built on a 6-slot chassis that accepts a coordinated set of plug-in modules: Pulse Pattern Generators (PPG) for high-quality, high-amplitude data output; Error Detectors (ED) with high input sensitivity for signal analysis tasks such as Bathtub and Eye Diagram measurements; and a Jitter Modulation Source (JMS) for generating SJ, RJ, BUJ, SSC, and Half Period jitter to drive receiver Jitter Tolerance tests. The mainframe drives the modules through an 8.4-inch color TFT display (800 x 600 pixels) with USB, LAN, and optional GPIB remote interfaces.
According to the product brochure, the MP1800A supports physical-layer testing for optical modules and high-speed devices up to 64.2 Gbit/s. Listed applications include EA/EML module evaluation at 10 Gbit/s with 3.5 Vp-p direct-drive amplitude, 25G/100G PON OLT upstream burst-mode testing, 32 Gbit/s ultrafast interconnect and SERDES evaluation, Active Optical Cable (AOC) characterization with simultaneous 8-channel BER, 100 GbE / 400 GbE device evaluation across CFP2/CFP4/CFP8 modules, 100 Gbit/s DP-QPSK and 40 Gbit/s DQPSK coherent-optical work, and compliance-style receiver testing for PCI Express (Gen 1.x through Gen 4.0), USB (3.0 and 3.1 Gen1/Gen2), and Thunderbolt 2/3 devices in conjunction with the MP1825B 4Tap Emphasis and MX183000A test software.
Anritsu Corporation is a Japanese precision-measurement company with roots stretching back to 1895. The MP1800A platform reflects two converging Anritsu lineages: its long-running expertise in bit error rate testing and its 1993 acquisition of Wiltron Company, which brought additional RF and microwave measurement technology and a North American commercial presence into the Anritsu portfolio.
The MP1800A platform documented in this brochure is built around a single 6-slot mainframe (the MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer) that accepts a coordinated catalog of plug-in modules and external companion units. The mainframe itself is constant; what changes between configurations is which PPG, ED, Jitter Modulation Source, Clock Distributor, Synthesizer, MUX, DEMUX, and PAM converter elements are installed and which options (bit-rate extensions, amplitude tiers, clock recovery tiers, channel counts) are enabled on those modules.
Comparing units in this family is therefore primarily an exercise in comparing installed option strings and module combinations rather than comparing different mainframe models. Two MP1800A mainframes can have substantially different bit-rate ceilings, jitter capability, channel counts, and PAM support depending on the modules and options inside them, which is why the brochure devotes its specification section to per-module ordering information and option-by-option capability descriptions.
Each pre-owned MP1800A configuration listed below is its own product page with condition-matched pricing and a documented installed-module list. Use the per-listing module and option details to confirm bit-rate coverage, channel count, jitter capability, and PAM support against your specific test application.
Within the published catalog, the meaningful differences between MP1800A configurations come from a small number of axes called out in the brochure. Bit-rate ceiling is set by which PPG/ED modules are installed and whether Option 001 is enabled: the 14 Gbit/s modules (MU181020B / MU181040B) cover up to 14 or 14.1 Gbit/s, the 28G/32G modules (MU183020A/21A, MU183040B/41B) cover 2.4 Gbit/s to 28.1 Gbit/s standard or 32.1 Gbit/s with Option 001, and the MP1861A/MP1862A MUX/DEMUX pair extends the system to 56.2 Gbit/s standard or 64.2 Gbit/s with Option 001.
Other axes the brochure differentiates include channel count (1ch, 2ch, or 4ch PPG/ED variants, with channel synchronization supporting up to 8ch in the chassis), data-output amplitude tier (e.g., the -011/-012/-013 amplitude options on the MU181020B, or the 2.0 V vs. 3.5 V options on the MU183020A/21A), clock recovery support on the ED (Option -020 on the MU181040B, or the -022 / -023 frequency-range options on the MU183040B/41B), variable data delay options, and whether the system is configured for PAM4/PAM8 work via the MZ1834A/B, MZ1838A, G0374A, G0375A, and G0376A accessories. The comparison table associated with this family lists each available configuration alongside these axes so you can match the listing to your application's bit-rate, channel-count, jitter, and modulation-format requirements.
