The B&K Precision HPS20K800 is a programmable DC power supply in the HPS Series, providing 20 kW of output power with a maximum output voltage of 800 V and maximum output current of 25 A in a 3U rack-mount form factor. The instrument is built around a 5-inch TFT touchscreen interface that displays both set values and measured values for voltage, current, power, and simulated internal resistance, with dedicated front-panel knobs for fine adjustment of voltage and current settings.

Applications listed for the HPS Series include testing photovoltaic components such as inverters and battery charge controllers, relay and component device testing, work in aerospace, electric vehicle, and green technology industries, and manufacturing and production test environments. The instrument can simulate the output of photovoltaic arrays, supporting solar inverter and charge controller development workflows where a programmable high-voltage DC source is required.

ValueTronics International stocks and tests high-power programmable DC supplies of this class in our 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive, Elgin, Illinois. Unlike pass-through resellers, we maintain the technical infrastructure to verify functional operation and document condition on instruments at this voltage and power tier before they ship, and we have done so since 1992.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The HPS Series from B&K Precision consists of high-power programmable DC power supplies that share a common 20 kW output rating and 3U rack-mount form factor. The two models in the series differ primarily in their maximum output voltage and corresponding maximum output current, allowing buyers to select the voltage/current envelope that matches their device under test while keeping the same chassis dimensions, control interface, script function, master/slave parallel architecture, and communication interfaces.

Both HPS Series models share the 5-inch TFT touchscreen, RS232/LAN/galvanically-isolated analog interfaces, USB datalogging, OVP/OCP/OPP/UVP protection set, configurable rise times, and the up-to-8-unit parallel scaling that delivers up to 160 kW of combined output. The selection between the two models is governed by the application's required voltage range and current draw, not by feature set or interface capability.

Each new HPS Series model below links to its own product page with condition-matched pricing and availability. Voltage and current ratings differ between the two models — select the configuration that matches the maximum voltage your device under test requires.

The HPS20K800 is the lower-voltage, higher-current model in the HPS Series, configured for 0 to 800 V output at up to 25 A. This voltage/current combination targets applications such as 800 V class EV battery pack and powertrain testing, inverter testing, and photovoltaic component testing where the working voltage stays below 800 V but current draw can reach the full 25 A rating. Programming accuracy on this model is specified at less than or equal to 800 mV for voltage and less than or equal to 50 mA for current.

The two HPS Series models trade voltage range against current capacity within the same 20 kW power envelope. The HPS20K800 covers 0 to 800 V at up to 25 A, while the HPS20K1500 covers 0 to 1500 V at up to 13.4 A. Other specifications scale with the voltage range: the HPS20K800 has 80 V of remote sense compensation versus 150 V on the HPS20K1500, OVP range of 0 to 960 V versus 0 to 1800 V, and tighter voltage programming accuracy (≤ 800 mV versus ≤ 1.5 V).

Output response time also differs between the models. The HPS20K800 specifies full-load rise time of ≤ 40 ms and full-load fall time of ≤ 60 ms, while the HPS20K1500 specifies ≤ 6 ms and ≤ 25 ms respectively. Ripple and noise specifications likewise differ — see the comparison table below and the full specifications section for each model's documented values.

Model Max Output Voltage Max Output Current Max Output Power
HPS20K800 800 V 25 A 20 kW
HPS20K800-400V 800 V 25 A 20 kW
HPS20K1500 1500 V 13.4 A 20 kW
HPS20K1500-400V 1500 V 13.4 A 20 kW

Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Note: All specifications apply to the unit after a temperature stabilization time of 15 minutes over an ambient temperature range of 23 °C ± 5 °C. Specifications are valid for single unit operation only.

Important: Maximum output: 800 V / 25 A / 20 kW. For applications requiring output above 800 V, see the HPS20K1500 (1500 V / 13.4 A / 20 kW). AC input configuration must be specified at order: HPS20K800 for 208 VAC three-phase, HPS20K800-400V for 400 VAC three-phase. Users supply their own AC mains connection per local codes.Important: Power cords and termination: Due to various AC line connections and terminations used around the world, the HPS Series requires users to supply their own AC mains connection, based on local laws and codes of the country/region.Important: Specifications are valid for single unit operation only. All specifications apply after a temperature stabilization time of 15 minutes over an ambient temperature range of 23 °C ± 5 °C.Recommended pairing: connect up to 8 HPS Series units in parallel via the rear-panel master/slave bus interface for combined output up to 160 kW, per the datasheet's master/slave operation specification.
