The Keithley 6517B is a 5½-digit electrometer and high resistance meter designed for low-current, high-impedance, charge, and high-resistance measurements that exceed the capability of conventional DMMs. The half-rack instrument combines a low-current input amplifier, a built-in ±1 kV voltage source, and a 200 TΩ input impedance front end in a single chassis, supporting current measurements from 1 fA to 20 mA, voltage measurements from 10 µV to 200 V, resistance measurements from 50 Ω to 10^16 Ω, and charge measurements from 10 fC to 2 µC.

Applications named on the datasheet include capacitor leakage and insulation resistance measurements, surface insulation resistance testing on printed circuit boards, voltage coefficient testing of resistors, diode leakage characterization, and volume (Ω-cm) and surface resistivity (Ω/square) measurements on insulating materials. The datasheet also identifies research uses in physics, optics, nanotechnology, and materials science, with specific mention of solar cell work (supported by the low voltage burden) and high-resistance measurements of nanomaterials such as polymer-based nanowires (supported by the integrated voltage source and low-current sensitivity). Quality control, product engineering, and production test for leakage, breakdown, and resistance characterization are also listed.

ValueTronics International, LLC stocks, tests, and ships the Keithley 6517B from our 20,000 square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive, Elgin, Illinois. Every {{CONDITION}} 6517B in our inventory is documented against the specifications printed on this datasheet before it leaves our facility, and the Test Architect handling your order has direct access to the inspection record, calibration status, and accessory configuration for the specific serial number being quoted — a level of pre-sale verification that pass-through brokers and drop-ship distributors structurally cannot provide.

Important: Maximum input: 250 V peak, DC to 60 Hz sine wave; 10 seconds per minute maximum on mA ranges. Maximum common mode voltage (DC to 60 Hz sine wave): 500 V peak at the electrometer input, 750 V peak at the V Source.Important: The Model 8009 Resistivity Test Fixture is designed to protect users from contact with potentially hazardous voltages — opening the lid of the chamber automatically turns off the Model 6517B's voltage source.Important: Software applications created for the earlier Model 6517A using SCPI commands can run without modifications on the Model 6517B.Recommended pairing: use the Keithley 8009 Resistivity Test Fixture for volume and surface resistivity measurements — its electrode dimensions are pre-programmed into the 6517B and its lid interlock automatically disables the voltage source when opened.
