The Amprobe XP Compact Digital Multimeter Series comprises three handheld DMMs — the 5XP-A, 15XP-B, and 35XP-A — each targeted at a distinct use environment. All three units share the same compact form factor (155 × 72 × 32 mm, approximately 210 g with battery) and operate from a single 9 V battery, while offering different combinations of measurement functions, safety ratings, and feature sets so that residential, commercial, industrial, and HVAC technicians can select the model that matches their daily work.
A digital multimeter is the universal diagnostic instrument of electrical and electronic work, measuring voltage, current, and resistance across a wide range of circuits. The XP Series extends that core capability with VolTect non-contact voltage detection on all three models, allowing the technician to verify the presence of AC voltage from 70 V to 600 V before making contact with conductors. The 5XP-A is positioned for residential, commercial, and general troubleshooting and includes a battery load test for 1.5 V and 9 V cells and a MinMax recording function. The 15XP-B is aimed at electronics engineers and field service technicians, adding autoranging, TTL logic test for digital circuits, diode test for component-level troubleshooting, an integrated tilt stand, and a special 2000 MΩ resistance range.
Amprobe has been manufacturing electrical test instruments since 1948 and operates today as part of the Fluke Corporation family, headquartered in Everett, Washington. The Amprobe brand continues to focus on field-oriented electrical test tools while benefiting from the broader engineering and distribution infrastructure of its parent organization.
The XP Compact Digital Multimeter Series is structured as three application-targeted models that share a common compact chassis. The 5XP-A is aimed at residential, commercial, and general troubleshooting; the 15XP-B is configured for commercial and industrial electronics work with TTL logic and extended resistance range; and the 35XP-A is the HVAC and electrical maintenance variant with temperature, capacitance, and frequency added.
Across the family, all three meters share VolTect non-contact voltage detection, a 600 V input rating, a single 9 V battery, and the same physical dimensions and weight. The differences live in display count, function set, safety category, and accuracy specifications — so model selection is driven primarily by the measurements the technician needs to make rather than by form factor or ergonomics.
Each model below is its own dedicated product page with new-matched pricing. The 5XP-A, 15XP-B, and 35XP-A are sold as separate SKUs because their function sets and safety ratings differ; select the page that matches the model your application calls for.
The most consequential differences across the three models are display resolution, safety rating, and function set. The 5XP-A and 15XP-B use a 3-1/2 digit display with a 1999 count, while the 35XP-A uses a 3-3/4 digit display with a 3999 count. The 15XP-B carries a CAT III 600 V rating across its input, the highest of the three; the 5XP-A and 35XP-A are rated CAT II 600 V / CAT III 300 V. Only the 35XP-A includes temperature, capacitance, and frequency; only the 15XP-B includes TTL logic test and the 2000 MΩ resistance range; only the 5XP-A and 35XP-A ship with the Magne-Grip holster as a highlighted feature.
Use the comparison table that follows to map your application requirements to the correct model. Customers measuring temperature or motor capacitance will need the 35XP-A; customers doing component-level electronics work with digital logic will be best served by the 15XP-B; customers doing general residential and commercial troubleshooting where the Magne-Grip and battery load test matter will find the 5XP-A is the right fit.
