The Agilent U1250A Series is a handheld digital multimeter line comprising the U1251A and U1252A, delivering 4.5-digit resolution with a 50,000-count full-scale dual display and high-contrast blue backlighting. Both models take accurate true-RMS readings and reach a basic DC voltage accuracy of up to 0.025%, giving the flexibility to perform quick validation measurements as well as tolerance checks and marginal-failure troubleshooting. Beyond conventional multimeter functions, the series integrates capabilities normally associated with a benchtop instrument into a single rugged handheld package.
Marketed as a 4-in-1 instrument for today's challenging maintenance environment, the series combines a full-featured digital multimeter with a frequency counter, a programmable square wave generator for stimulation of electronic digital circuits, and a thermometer function. Rated at CAT III 1000 V (IEC 61010 compliant), the meters allow measurements on building electrical installations at locations between the main circuit breaker and the mains socket-outlets, including measurements on equipment that is permanently connected to the main circuits. Accurate true-RMS measurement together with sophisticated math functions helps increase confidence in fault findings and further reduce measurement errors.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a secure, 20,000-square-foot warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, which means the instruments we list are physically on hand and ready to ship. Our test-and-measurement specialists inspect and functionally verify every pre-owned unit in-house before it leaves the building, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer.
Agilent Technologies was established in 1999 as a spin-off of Hewlett-Packard's test-and-measurement business. In 2014, that electronic measurement business was established as Keysight Technologies, which carries the product lineage forward today.
The Agilent U1250A Series brings benchtop-class capability into a handheld form factor, pairing a 50,000-count, 4.5-digit dual display with true-RMS measurement and a basic DC voltage accuracy reaching 0.025%. The series is built around a 4-in-1 concept that adds a frequency counter, a programmable square wave generator, and a thermometer function to a full-featured digital multimeter.
Across the line, the meters share a rugged shock-absorbing overmold, CAT III 1000 V overvoltage protection, a –20 °C to +55 °C operating range, and a 3-year warranty, while differing in measurement accuracy and the specific function set offered on each model. The comparison table below details those differences model by model.
Each pre-owned model linked below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing, so you can select the exact model and condition your application requires. Review the per-model specifications and the comparison table to confirm the right fit before ordering.
The two models in the series differ in both precision and feature set. The U1252A reaches a basic DC voltage accuracy of 0.025%, while the U1251A is specified at 0.03%, and the U1252A extends true-RMS AC bandwidth to 100 kHz against the U1251A's 30 kHz range. J-type thermocouple support is available on the U1252A in addition to the K-type support shared by both models.
The U1252A additionally provides a programmable square wave generator output, a dedicated frequency counter with divide-by-1 and divide-by-100 modes, AC+DC measurement specifications, and a rechargeable Ni-MH battery with built-in charging, whereas the U1251A is powered by an alkaline 9 V battery. The comparison table below lists each model's functions side by side.
| Model | DC Basic Accuracy | True-RMS AC Bandwidth | Thermocouple Types |
|---|---|---|---|
| U1251A | 0.03% | 30 kHz | K |
| U1252A | 0.025% | 100 kHz | J, K |

Important: Current can be measured up to 10 A continuously; an additional 0.5% accuracy applies to signals from 10 A to 20 A for 30 seconds maximum, and after measuring a current above 10 A the meter should be left to cool for twice the measuring time used.
Important: Measurement category derates with altitude: CAT III 1000 V from 0 to 2000 m and CAT III 600 V from 2000 to 3000 m, per IEC 61010-1 2nd Edition.
Important: Always use the NULL function to zero out the thermal effect with open test lead before measuring; if the NULL function is not used, an additional 20 counts must be added to the DC current accuracy.
Recommended pairing: connect to a PC with the optional Agilent U1173A IR-to-USB cable to use the included datalogging software for automatic logging.
