The Emona TIMS-301 Telecommunications Instructional Modeling System is laboratory teaching hardware designed for electrical engineering and electronic engineering technology students studying wireless, telecommunications, and signal processing. The system implements telecommunications block diagrams as real, patchable hardware: each plug-in module realizes a fundamental telecommunications or signal-processing building block, and students assemble experiments by patching modules together exactly as the textbook block diagram is drawn. The TIMS-301 ships with a System Unit containing the most commonly used fixed modules plus the BASIC Module Set of 13 plug-in modules, and the system can be expanded with over 50 ADVANCED plug-in modules to cover additional modulation, coding, fiber optics, and DSP topics.
TIMS is used in undergraduate teaching labs, in final-year student projects, and in combination with student-designed circuits. The documented experiment library spans introductory modeling of math equations through AM, DSB, SSB, ISB, FM and PM, ASK, FSK and GFSK, BPSK, QPSK and multi-level PSK, QAM, PCM, ADPCM, Delta and Adaptive Delta Modulation, line coding and decoding, PAM, PWM, PPM, TDM, FDM and PDM, spread spectrum techniques including DSSS, CDMA and FHSS, OFDM principles, fiber optic transmission with WDM and bidirectional links, SONET/SDH framing, convolutional and block coding, trellis-coded modulation, eye patterns and BER measurement, matched filter detection, equalization, pulse shaping, and a separate Signals & Systems experiment set covering convolution, Fourier and Laplace analysis, sampling and aliasing, FIR and IIR discrete-time filters, and pole-zero design.
ValueTronics International stocks Emona TIMS test and measurement teaching equipment and supports its customers from a 20,000 square foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, where instruments are received, inspected, and prepared for shipment by our own staff rather than handled through third-party drop-shippers. Working with a U.S.-based distributor that holds inventory and handles configuration directly makes a meaningful difference on a modular teaching system like TIMS, where the buyer needs accurate guidance on which BASIC and ADVANCED modules match the experiments planned for a given course.
The Emona TIMS-301 family is built around a single System Unit and a library of interchangeable plug-in modules. The two System Unit variants documented on the datasheet are the TIMS-301 and the TIMS-301C; the TIMS-301C adds a built-in PC-based 2-channel virtual instrument with scope and spectrum (FFT) displays, true RMS voltmeter, and frequency counter, and is LabVIEW and MATLAB compatible. Both variants ship with the same 12-slot rack, the same fixed modules, the same BASIC Module Set of 13 plug-in modules, and the same User Manuals, Student Text experiments, and LabSheet experiments.
Beyond the choice of System Unit variant, the TIMS family scales through documented expansion kits and individually orderable ADVANCED modules. The datasheet describes the EVAL-16 Kit (additional BASIC and ADVANCED modules for quantitative SNR, BER, and digital experiments), the TIMS-CDMA kit (Digital Utilities, Multi Sequences Source, CDMA Decoder), the TIMS-FHSS kit (Integrate & Dump, Multi Sequences Source, two Frequency Hop Synthesizers), and the TIMS-AdvFO Advanced Fiber Optics kit (Fiber Optic Transmitters in red and green, Fiber Optic Receivers, Couplers, WDM Filters, and a fiber optic cable set). Individual ADVANCED modules listed include items such as the TIMS-436 Laplace and TIMS-437 z-Transform modules and student-project modules including the TIMS-820, TIMS-830, and TIMS-840.
Each pre-owned TIMS configuration listed below is its own product page with condition-matched pricing. Use the comparison information to identify the System Unit variant and module set that fit your course, then open the matching page for full ordering details.
The clearest difference within the family is between the TIMS-301 and the TIMS-301C System Units. The TIMS-301 provides the rack, fixed modules, and BASIC Module Set and is intended to be used with an external oscilloscope. The TIMS-301C adds an integrated PC-based virtual instrument that supplies two channels plus trigger input, wide-bandwidth scope and spectrum analyzer displays, a true RMS voltmeter, and a frequency counter, and is supplied with PC software and cables; the host PC is supplied by the user.
The other axis of differentiation is the module set. The datasheet documents predefined expansion kits — EVAL-16 for quantitative SNR, BER, and digital experiments; CDMA for direct-sequence spread spectrum and CDMA; FHSS for frequency-hop spread spectrum; and AdvFO for fiber optic transmission, WDM, bidirectional fiber links, and SONET over fiber — and also lists the underlying ADVANCED modules individually so that custom module selections can be assembled to match a specific syllabus. The comparison table below summarizes the System Unit and module choices documented on this datasheet.
