RTH1022 — Field-Grade Handheld Oscilloscope
In summary, the Rohde & Schwarz RTH1022 is a 2-channel (with integrated DMM) CAT IV 600 V / CAT III 1000 V rated handheld digital oscilloscope built on the R&S Scope Rider RTH platform. 2 oscilloscope channels + integrated digital multimeter, with 200 MHz analog bandwidth, 5 GSa/s peak real-time sampling, a 10-bit ADC (up to 16-bit with high-resolution decimation), and calculated rise time of < 1.75 ns. The R&S RTH-K15 history and segmented memory option ships with the base unit, and the platform is software-upgradeable to higher bandwidth tiers via keycode without returning the instrument.
What is the RTH1022 used for?
The RTH1022 is used for waveform debug and measurement on energized industrial and electrical equipment — motor drives, switching power supplies, photovoltaic inverters, distribution panels, automotive electronics, and field service of installed systems. Its fully isolated inputs and CAT IV 600 V / CAT III 1000 V rating allow direct connection to live AC mains and three-phase distribution circuits without an isolation transformer.
Why does 200 MHz bandwidth matter for this application?
Oscilloscope bandwidth governs the highest signal frequency that can be measured with rated accuracy. The standard rule is to choose an instrument with 3 to 5 times the bandwidth of the highest signal frequency in the device under test. At 200 MHz, the RTH1022 delivers a calculated rise time of < 1.75 ns, suitable for the digital edges, switching transients, and PWM waveforms encountered in modern industrial and power-electronics environments.
Quantitative anchors from the datasheet: peak real-time sampling of 5 GSa/s on a single active channel, DC gain accuracy ±1.5% of reading at input sensitivities above 5 mV/div, channel-to-channel isolation greater than 40 dB (measured) at matched input sensitivity, common-mode rejection greater than 100 dB at DC and AC ≤ 100 kHz (measured), timebase accuracy ±10 ppm, and waveform acquisition rate up to 50,000 waveforms/s. Input impedance is 1 MΩ ± 1% in parallel with 12 pF ± 2 pF (measured).
The RTH1022 is built and certified to IEC/EN/DIN EN 61010-1, IEC/EN/DIN EN 61010-2-030, UL/CSA 61010-1, UL/CSA 61010-2-030, plus 61010-2-033 for the integrated DMM. EMC compliance follows CISPR 11 / EN 55011 Group 1 Class A and IEC/EN 61326-1. Environmental qualification covers MIL-PRF-28800F class 3 shock and vibration and IP51 ingress protection per IEC 60529. The instrument carries VDE, CCSAUS, and KC certifications.

Important note on probes. Maximum input voltage at the BNC inputs derates above 500 kHz per the published input rating curve. To preserve full CAT IV 600 V / CAT III 1000 V isolation to the probe tip, use R&S RT-ZI10 or RT-ZI11 isolated probes. Standard 600 V CAT IV passive probes ship with the base unit.
Note on calibration. Manufacturer-recommended calibration interval is 1 year. Optional accredited calibration coverage is available via R&S extended-warranty programs (CW1/CW2, AW1/AW2) — contact your Test Architect for details.
