The Agilent FieldFox N9912A is a handheld RF analyzer designed to consolidate multiple field measurement functions into a single portable instrument. Available in 4 GHz (Option 104) and 6 GHz (Option 106) configurations, the N9912A integrates cable and antenna testing, spectrum analysis, vector network analysis, power measurement, and vector voltmeter capability in a ruggedized, battery-powered form factor intended for field deployment.

The N9912A is built for wireless infrastructure field work, including cell site cable and antenna testing, interference hunting, transmitter verification, and component characterization. Applications cited on the datasheet include return loss and distance-to-fault testing on feed lines and antennas, insertion loss measurement on filters and amplifiers, one-port cable loss verification, intermittent interference detection using the built-in spectrum analyzer, and electrical-length matching of phase-matched cables using the vector voltmeter function. The analyzer addresses scenarios such as VOR/ILS radio navigation verification and isolation testing on 2-port components.

Brand Heritage

Agilent Technologies was spun off from Hewlett-Packard in 1999 as HP's test and measurement business. In 2014, Agilent split again, with the electronic measurement business becoming Keysight Technologies. Instruments originally branded Agilent — including the FieldFox N9912A — are part of the lineage now supported by Keysight.

Important: Maximum input level at the RF Out port: +23 dBm. Maximum input power at the RF In port: +27 dBm (0.5 W). Maximum DC voltage at either RF port: ±50 VDC.Important: The N9912A base unit ships with no frequency-range capability enabled; either Option 104 (4 GHz) or Option 106 (6 GHz) Cable and Antenna Analyzer must be ordered to make measurements. Spectrum analyzer functionality requires Option 230 or 231, and these require Option 104 or 106 respectively.Important: S21 transmission measurement (Option 303 Network Analysis) requires Option 110 Transmission Measurement to be installed.Important: Preamplifier (Option 235) requires Option 230 or 231 spectrum analyzer to be installed.Important: Power Meter (Option 302) requires an Agilent U2000 Series USB power sensor (sold separately) to make RF/microwave power measurements.Recommended pairing: for true average RF power measurements up to 24 GHz, the N9912A (with Option 302) is designed to connect with Agilent U2000 Series USB power sensors as identified on the datasheet.
