The Keysight N5224B and N5225B are PNA-series microwave network analyzers built around synthesizer revision 7 and offered in both 2-port and 4-port configurations. The N5224B covers 10 MHz to 43.5 GHz and the N5225B covers 10 MHz to 50 GHz, with optional Low-Frequency Extension hardware lowering the start frequency to 900 Hz. Both instruments characterize the magnitude and phase of a device's transmission and reflection responses (S-parameters) across these ranges.
A vector network analyzer stimulates a device under test with a swept signal and measures how that device transmits and reflects energy, resolving both magnitude and phase at every frequency point. Beyond standard S-parameter sweeps, these analyzers support group-delay measurements, point-in-pulse and pulse-profile measurements through the rear-panel pulse I/O, and measurements on frequency-converting devices using external and remote mixers via the external test set driver and external IF inputs. With the optional phase noise measurement application, the instruments perform absolute phase noise and AM noise measurements along with single-channel and two-channel residual noise measurements.

Keysight Technologies traces its test-and-measurement heritage to Hewlett-Packard, whose instrument business was spun off as Agilent Technologies in 1999 and then established as Keysight Technologies in 2014. Products carrying the Keysight name continue that measurement lineage.
The N522xB PNA series places the N5224B and N5225B on a common platform that differs primarily in top frequency: the N5224B reaches 43.5 GHz and the N5225B reaches 50 GHz, both starting at 10 MHz, or at 900 Hz with the Low-Frequency Extension option. Each model is offered in 2-port and 4-port test-set configurations.
Within each model, options scale capability from a base test set through added front-panel jumpers and an R1 receiver switch, source and receiver attenuators for extended power range, and internal bias-tees. Low-Frequency Extension variants add the hardware needed for measurements below 10 MHz.

The principal difference across the family is the upper frequency limit: the N5224B is specified to 43.5 GHz and the N5225B to 50 GHz. Both share the same 10 MHz standard low end, the same optional 900 Hz Low-Frequency Extension, and the same 2-port and 4-port architectures, so the comparison table focuses on frequency coverage alongside the option-driven differences.
Option suffixes determine installed hardware rather than the core frequency range. The 2-port options (200, 201, 217, 219) and 4-port options (400, 401, 417, 419) add front-panel jumpers, an R1 receiver switch, extended-power-range attenuators, and bias-tees in increasing combinations, while the LFE options (205, 220, 405, 420) add low-frequency extension hardware. Important: Effective dynamic range must take measurement uncertainties and interfering signals into account. The extended dynamic range set-up should only be used when the receiver input will never exceed its maximum receiver input; the extended range is only available in one-path transmission measurements and may typically be degraded at particular frequencies below 500 MHz due to spurious receiver residuals.
Important: Corrected system performance specifications apply with the 85133F flexible test port cable set and a full 2-port calibration (environmental temperature 23 °C ±3 °C, with < 1 °C deviation from calibration temperature). A compatible calibration kit and test port cable set are required and are referenced separately in this document.
Recommended pairing: specified corrected performance is achieved with a full 2-port calibration using Keysight 85056A or 85056D mechanical cal kits, or the N4693A/N4693D electronic calibration modules.
