The HAMEG HMP4040 is a programmable four-channel high-performance DC power supply delivering up to 384 watts of total output across four galvanically isolated, earth-free, short-circuit-protected channels. Each channel provides 0–32 V and 0–10 A (with up to 5 A available at 32 V, limited to 160 W per channel), with an intelligent power management system that distributes the 384 W envelope across active outputs. The companion HMP4030 model offers the same per-channel capability across three channels rather than four.
The HMP4040 is built for laboratory and development environments that need multiple independently controllable DC rails on a single bench. Typical applications include powering multi-rail prototype circuits, providing isolated supplies for analog and digital sections of a design simultaneously, and serving as a programmable source in automated test setups. The EasyArb function — which lets the user define a sequence of up to 128 voltage/current/time points with dwell times from 10 ms to 60 s, repeated continuously or in burst mode — extends the supply beyond static DC operation into freely definable V/I profiles, making it useful for simulating battery discharge curves, supply-line transients, and other time-varying source behavior.
ValueTronics stocks, tests, and ships the HMP4040 from our 20,000 square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. Equipment we sell is verified by our in-house technicians before it leaves the building rather than drop-shipped from a third party, which is how we can stand behind the condition and performance of every unit we list.
HAMEG Instruments GmbH is a German test and measurement manufacturer founded in 1957 and headquartered in Mainhausen, Germany. HAMEG was acquired by Rohde & Schwarz in 2005 and operated as a wholly owned subsidiary; the HMP-series power supplies were subsequently rebranded into the Rohde & Schwarz portfolio, and current-production equivalents are marketed under the Rohde & Schwarz HMP name. Units carrying the HAMEG label predate or coincide with this transition.
The HMP-series from HAMEG comprises two closely related programmable bench supplies that share the same core architecture: 0–32 V and 0–10 A per channel, 384 W total output managed by intelligent power management, linear post-regulator design with <150 µVrms residual ripple, and identical interface, display, EasyArb, FuseLink, and protection feature sets. The two models in this family differ only in channel count.
The HMP4030 provides three independent output channels; the HMP4040 provides four. All other specifications — per-channel voltage and current range, total output power envelope, ripple, regulation, resolution, EasyArb behavior, FuseLink, OVP/OCP, display, memory, and interface options — are identical between the two.
Each pre-owned model below is listed on its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Selecting the right channel count for the application is the primary decision; the per-channel specifications are the same across the family.
Within the family, the HMP4040 is the four-channel variant, suited to applications that need a fourth independent rail on a single chassis — for example, when an additional housekeeping rail or a fourth tracking channel is required without occupying a second instrument's worth of bench space.
The practical choice between the HMP4030 and the HMP4040 is driven by the number of independent DC rails the application needs simultaneously. A three-rail design — typically a positive analog rail, a negative analog rail, and a digital rail — is fully served by the HMP4030. A design that adds a fourth rail, such as a separate bias supply, a second digital domain, or an isolated reference, fits the HMP4040.
Because the 384 W total output is shared across active channels in both models via the intelligent power management system, the HMP4040's fourth channel does not increase total available power; it adds flexibility in how that 384 W envelope can be partitioned. Per-channel limits (160 W maximum, 10 A maximum, 5 A at the full 32 V) remain identical. The comparison table below summarizes the specific differences across the family.
| Model | Output Channels | Output Voltage | Output Current |
|---|---|---|---|
| HMP4040 | 4 | 0 to 32 V | 0 to 10 A |
