The Fluke 283 FC/PV is a solar-focused True-RMS digital multimeter and wireless current clamp kit engineered for technicians working in DC environments up to 1500 V. The kit pairs the 283 FC handheld multimeter with the a283 FC wireless AC/DC current clamp, TL175-HV TwistGuard silicone test leads, and a CAT III 1500 V Staubli MC4 test lead set, delivering a matched measurement system rated CAT III 1500 V / CAT IV 1000 V end-to-end.
The 283 FC/PV is built for utility-scale solar photovoltaic arrays, wind power installations, electric railway systems, and data center DC environments. Typical front-line tasks include troubleshooting inverters, combiner boxes, strings of PV modules, and individual modules. The Staubli MC4 leads connect directly to module or string connectors for DC voltage measurements up to 1500 V, while the TL175-HV silicone leads extend the kit to voltage, millivoltage, resistance, continuity, and capacitance measurements throughout the balance of the system.
Fluke Corporation was founded in 1948 by John Fluke Sr. and has been part of Fortive Corporation since Fortive's 2016 spin-off from Danaher Corporation. The Fluke brand has remained continuous through these corporate transitions, and the 283 FC carries forward the Fluke product designation directly.
The Fluke 283 FC/PV is offered as a complete solar measurement kit and is also available as two component products: the FLUKE-283 FC multimeter sold without the solar-specific accessories, and the FLUKE-A283 FC wireless current clamp sold separately. All three SKUs share the same CAT III 1500 V / CAT IV 1000 V safety rating and the same True-RMS measurement architecture.
The choice between the full PV kit and the component instruments depends on what the technician already owns. The PV kit is the complete front-line solar troubleshooting solution; the standalone multimeter and standalone clamp let an existing 283 FC owner add the wireless clamp capability later, or let a technician outfit a clamp-only role where another rated multimeter is already in service.

The FLUKE-283 FC/PV kit is the version specifically configured for utility-scale photovoltaic work. It is the only SKU in the family that includes the CAT III 1500 V Staubli MC4 test lead set (PVLEAD1) for direct connection to PV module and string connectors, in addition to the 283 FC multimeter, the a283 FC wireless clamp, the TL175-HV TwistGuard silicone test leads, the TPAK magnetic hanging strap, and the premium hard carrying case.
The three SKUs differ by accessory bundle, not by measurement specification. FLUKE-283 FC/PV: multimeter, wireless clamp, MC4 PV leads, TL175-HV silicone leads, hard case, TPAK hanger. FLUKE-283 FC: multimeter, TL175-HV silicone leads, hard case, TPAK hanger — no wireless clamp and no MC4 PV leads. FLUKE-A283 FC: wireless clamp alone, intended as an add-on for an existing 283 FC owner.
Warranty terms also differ across the family: the 283 FC multimeter carries a limited lifetime warranty, while the a283 FC wireless clamp carries a one-year warranty. The PV kit reflects both warranty terms across its bundled components.
