The 283 FC/PV is built for utility-scale solar photovoltaic arrays, wind power installations, electric railway systems, and data center DC environments. Typical front-line tasks include troubleshooting inverters, combiner boxes, strings of PV modules, and individual modules. The Staubli MC4 leads connect directly to module or string connectors for DC voltage measurements up to 1500 V, while the TL175-HV silicone leads extend the kit to voltage, millivoltage, resistance, continuity, and capacitance measurements throughout the balance of the system.

All three SKUs share the same CAT III 1500 V / CAT IV 1000 V safety rating and the same True-RMS measurement architecture.
The choice between the full PV kit and the component instruments depends on what the technician already owns. The PV kit is the complete front-line solar troubleshooting solution; the standalone multimeter and standalone clamp let an existing 283 FC owner add the wireless clamp capability later, or let a technician outfit a clamp-only role where another rated multimeter is already in service.

The FLUKE-283 FC/PV kit is the version specifically configured for utility-scale photovoltaic work. It is the only SKU in the family that includes the CAT III 1500 V Staubli MC4 test lead set (PVLEAD1) for direct connection to PV module and string connectors, in addition to the 283 FC multimeter, the a283 FC wireless clamp, the TL175-HV TwistGuard silicone test leads, the TPAK magnetic hanging strap, and the premium hard carrying case.

Warranty terms also differ across the family: the 283 FC multimeter carries a limited lifetime warranty, while the a283 FC wireless clamp carries a one-year warranty. The PV kit reflects both warranty terms across its bundled components.
