The Extech DCP36 is an 80-watt switching-mode DC power supply with autoranging voltage and current output. It delivers 0.5 to 36V and 0 to 5A within an 80W maximum output envelope, automatically allocating voltage and current within that power budget rather than locking the user to a fixed rectangular operating area. The unit operates in constant voltage or constant current mode and presents both outputs on dual 4-digit LED displays with 10mV and 10mA resolution.
A DC power supply with autoranging output is used on prototype benches, in education labs, and in field service environments where a single instrument needs to cover a wide range of voltage and current combinations. The DCP36 specifically is configured for tight workbench installations: a compact slim tower form factor, light weight, and front-or-rear output terminals so the supply can be integrated into either a manual bench setup or a more permanent fixture. The lower display can be switched to show either output current or output wattage, which is useful when verifying that a load is operating inside the supply's 80W power budget.
