The Extech 407860 Heavy Duty Vibration Meter is a portable handheld instrument that measures acceleration, velocity, and displacement of vibrating surfaces using a remote piezoelectric sensor on a 1-meter cable with a magnetic mount. The meter displays vibration amplitude in any of the three measurement domains, and additionally stores the maximum and minimum values encountered during a measurement session for later recall.
The 407860 is designed for vibration measurement on motors, bearings, fans, pumps, rotating machinery, and plant maintenance applications. The magnetic mounting accessory allows the sensor to attach directly to ferrous machine housings, bearing blocks, and motor frames, while the 1-meter cable length keeps the operator and the meter display at a safe and readable distance from the measurement point.
ValueTronics International stocks the Extech 407860 alongside thousands of other test and measurement instruments in our 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive, Elgin, Illinois. Inventory is held, inspected, and processed in-house by our team — we do not drop-ship, and we do not pass orders through to third-party warehouses. Customers ordering the 407860 from ValueTronics work directly with a Test Architect who can confirm condition, accessory completeness, and shipment status against a unit physically on our floor.
Extech Instruments was acquired by FLIR Systems in 2007 and continues to be sold under the Extech brand within the FLIR product portfolio. FLIR Systems itself was acquired by Teledyne Technologies in 2021, placing Extech within the Teledyne FLIR organization while retaining its independent brand identity for handheld test instrumentation.
The 407860 is offered as a single base meter configuration with an optional NIST-traceable calibration variant. The base model (407860) and the calibration variant (407860-NIST) share identical measurement specifications, range coverage, sensor, and physical form factor — the difference is the inclusion of a calibration certificate with measurement results traceable to NIST primary standards.
Customers selecting between the two configurations are typically choosing based on the documentation requirements of their quality system. Plant maintenance and general predictive-maintenance applications often do not require formal calibration documentation. Regulated industries, ISO-9001 calibration programs, and contract-driven inspection workflows often do.
Each new model below is listed on its own product page with condition-matched pricing, availability, and accessory inventory verified against the specific unit on our floor. Calibration documentation requirements should be confirmed on the formal quote before order placement.
The 407860 and 407860-NIST differ only in the calibration documentation that ships with the instrument. Measurement ranges (acceleration to 200 m/s² peak, velocity to 200 mm/s peak, displacement to 2 mm peak-to-peak), frequency response (10 Hz to 1 kHz), accuracy (±5% + 2 digits), and physical configuration are identical between the two part numbers.
The two optional AC adaptors (156119 for 117V mains and 156221 for 220V mains) are accessory part numbers — not separate meter configurations — and may be added to either the 407860 or 407860-NIST as an alternative to 9V battery operation.
