The WF1973 and WF1974 are multifunction generators built on direct digital synthesis (DDS) technology. The WF1973 is a single-channel instrument and the WF1974 is a two-channel instrument, sharing a common architecture that produces sine, square, pulse, ramp, noise, and DC outputs along with an extensive set of parameter-variable and arbitrary waveforms.
A multifunction generator produces controllable, repeatable electrical waveforms used to stimulate a device or circuit under test. Beyond continuous oscillation, both models provide modulation, sweep, burst, and sequence oscillation modes, with a sequence function intended for straightforward test-waveform creation and adjustment so that frequency, phase, amplitude, and related parameters can be rapidly changed and swept.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000-square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois.
The WF1973 and WF1974 form a single family of DDS-based multifunction generators that share the same waveform library, frequency range, output characteristics, and oscillation modes. The defining distinction within the family is channel count: the WF1973 provides one output channel and the WF1974 provides two.
Both models generate standard, parameter-variable, and arbitrary waveforms, and both offer continuous, modulated, sweep, burst, and sequence oscillation. Selecting between them is primarily a question of whether an application requires one or two independent generator channels.
Each model below links to its own dedicated product page with new-matched pricing. Choose the model that fits your channel-count requirement, then open the listing for the condition you need; pricing and availability are shown per model and per condition.
The WF1974 adds two-channel ganged operation, offering 2-phase, constant-frequency-difference, constant-frequency-ratio, and differential output modes that hold a defined relationship between the two channels. Each channel is floated from the housing to reduce the effect of ground loops.
Across the family, the principal differences are channel count and the capabilities that depend on it. The WF1973 is a single-channel unit with power consumption of 50 VA or less, while the WF1974 is a two-channel unit with power consumption of 75 VA or less.
The two-channel ganged operation modes -- 2-phase, constant frequency difference, constant frequency ratio, and differential output -- are available on the WF1974 only. The comparison table below summarizes channel count, power consumption, and other per-model attributes.
| Model | Channels | Max Frequency (Sine) | Max Output Voltage |
|---|---|---|---|
| WF1974 | 2 | 30 MHz | 20 Vp-p/open |
| WF1973 | 1 | 30 MHz | 20 Vp-p/open |
Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.
Important: Withstand voltage between insulated signal grounds and between housings is 42 Vpk max. (DC + AC peak).
Recommended pairing: the optional PA-001-1318 multi-I/O cable connects to the rear-panel multi-I/O connector for sweep and sequence control.
