The U8793 Arbitrary Waveform Generator Unit installs in the Memory HiCorder MR8847A to combine generating and recording functions in a single instrument. With the unit installed, the MR8847A provides a function generator mode, an arbitrary waveform generator mode, and a waveform measurement mode together, so an engineer can generate and record at the same time with the same instrument and observe waveforms while varying output conditions such as amplitude and frequency.
The combination is applied to automobile and railroad transport-equipment testing, where actual waveforms are used to test control boards for engine control, airbags, brake systems, power steering, and active suspension. Additional listed applications include vibration reproducibility testing using vibration waveforms recorded in the field, power anomaly simulation that recreates supply dips, instantaneous interruptions, and voltage fluctuations for immunity testing, inverter motor performance testing for VVVF control and PWM waveforms, power steering endurance testing, and vehicle sensor inspection — including 14 V DC pulse generation to simulate a car battery.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000-square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois.
The U8793 Arbitrary Waveform Generator Unit, the MR8790 Waveform Generator Unit, and the MR8791 Pulse Generator Unit are plug-in generator units that expand the practical applications of the Memory HiCorder. They are used in various combinations with measurement units so that a single Memory HiCorder can both generate stimulus signals and record results.
Each unit shares the same compact form factor of roughly 106 mm wide by 19.8 mm high by 196.5 mm deep, an SMB output terminal, a maximum rated voltage to ground of 33 V AC rms or 70 V DC, and compliance with EN61010 for safety and EN61326 for EMC. They differ in channel count, output type, and the kinds of waveforms each generates.
Each new unit below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Select the model that matches your channel count and output requirements, and review that page for its specific new availability and price.
The U8793 is the arbitrary-waveform member of the group, adding a function generator mode, an arbitrary waveform generator mode, and a waveform measurement mode to the MR8847A, and generating isolated output of up to 15 V without an external amplifier.
The U8793 provides 2 channels per unit with an output frequency range of 0 Hz to 100 kHz, a maximum output voltage of -10 V to 15 V, and full function-generator, arbitrary-waveform, sweep, and program capability. The MR8790 Waveform Generator Unit provides 4 channels per unit producing sine waves up to 20 kHz and DC voltage output with a high-precision DC output accuracy of ±0.6 mV and a maximum output voltage of ±10 V. The MR8791 Pulse Generator Unit provides 8 channels per unit with pulse and pattern output, selectable TTL-level logic output or open-collector output, and a minimum pulse width of 1 µs.
Note that the MR8790 Waveform Generator Unit and the MR8791 Pulse Generator Unit do not have phase control or synchronize control modes. The comparison table below summarizes the channel counts, output types, and key output specifications for each unit.

Important: Caution: MR8847 waveform data can be used for output, but only the MR8847A can be used for waveform generation.
Important: The Memory HiCorder by itself cannot create arbitrary waveforms; use the Waveform Maker SF8000 (bundled on the Application Disk included with the Memory HiCorder).
Important: The MR8790 Waveform Generator Unit and the MR8791 Pulse Generator Unit do not have phase control or synchronize control modes.
Important: These generator units are plug-in units "For the MR8847A or other" Memory HiCorder and require a Hioki Memory HiCorder mainframe (MR8847A) to operate; they cannot be used standalone.
Important: Connection cables are not part of the unit; the appropriate connection cable (L9795-01 SMB-to-alligator clip or L9795-02 SMB-to-BNC, both 1.5 m, max. rated voltage to ground 33 V AC rms or 70 V DC) must be ordered separately as an Option to connect the SMB output terminals to a device under test.
Recommended pairing: install the U8793 in the Memory HiCorder MR8847A and use the bundled Waveform Maker SF8000 software to create, edit, and output arbitrary waveforms.
