View full details

The Aim-TTi TG2000 and its companion TG1000 are Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) function generators that bring crystal-referenced precision to a value-oriented price point. Every waveform is derived digitally from a crystal master clock using a phase accumulator, a look-up table and a DAC, so the accuracy and stability of the output track that of the reference oscillator. Unlike generators that digitise only the frequency setting, every function is digitally controlled, allowing complete instrument set-ups to be stored and — on the TG2000 — full remote control to be implemented.

A function generator supplies the known, controllable stimulus an engineer needs to exercise a circuit and observe its response. Across these units that stimulus can be swept in frequency, gated, amplitude-modulated, frequency-shift-keyed or stepped through a tone list, while the multi-function auxiliary output can deliver a sweep-start pulse and an adjustable marker for synchronising an oscilloscope or chart recorder. Because all parameters are controlled electronically and up to nine complete set-ups are held in non-volatile memory, automated test sequences are straightforward to configure.

ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, and has specialised in new and used test-and-measurement equipment since 1992.

Brand Heritage

Thurlby Thandar Instruments Ltd., known as TTi, is one of Europe's established manufacturers of test-and-measurement instruments. Its products have historically been sold under two brand names, TTi and Aim, and the company has been consolidating its full product range under a single Aim-TTi brand, with many products continuing to carry the earlier TTi or Aim marks during the transition.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The TG1000 and TG2000 form a two-model family of DDS function generators that share the same architecture, waveform set, modulation modes and front-panel operation, differing principally in maximum output frequency. Both derive every waveform from a crystal clock using direct digital synthesis and store up to nine complete set-ups in non-volatile memory.

The TG2000 extends the upper frequency limit to 20MHz and adds RS-232 and USB remote interfaces, while the TG1000 covers the same functions to a 10MHz limit. Choosing between them is largely a question of the highest frequency required and whether programmable remote control is needed.

Each model below links to its own dedicated product page with new-matched pricing. Select the model that fits your frequency and interface requirements, then choose the new listing that matches your condition and budget preference.

The TG2000 is the model equipped for remote operation: it includes an RS-232 interface — operable in a conventional mode or an addressable mode that controls up to 32 instruments from one port — together with a USB 1.1 connection, enabling full programmable control of every function and remote storage of set-ups. It also carries the family's 20MHz upper frequency limit.

As the comparison table shows, the core difference is frequency span: the TG1000 reaches 10MHz and the TG2000 reaches 20MHz, each with six-digit or 1mHz resolution and the same ±10ppm one-year accuracy. Waveforms, amplitude range, sweep, gating, AM, FSK and tone-switching modulation are common to both.

The second difference is connectivity. The TG2000 provides RS-232 and USB interfaces for full remote control and set-up storage, whereas the TG1000 is operated from its front panel. All other specifications — output impedance options, DC offset, the auxiliary sync output, the display and the stored-settings memory — are shared across the family.

Model Max Frequency Resolution Output Level
TG1000 10 MHz 6 digits or 1mHz 5mV to 20V pk-pk
TG2000 20 MHz 6 digits or 1mHz 5mV to 20V pk-pk

Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.
