The Tektronix MDO4000 Series is a family of Mixed Domain Oscilloscopes that combine a four-channel oscilloscope, 16 digital logic channels, and a dedicated radio-frequency input in a single instrument. Tektronix introduced it as the first oscilloscope with a built-in spectrum analyzer, allowing time-correlated capture of analog, digital, and RF signals so the time domain and the frequency domain can be viewed together from one acquisition.
Its central capability is correlating frequency-domain events with the time-domain phenomena that cause them. The series is shown tuning and characterizing phase-locked loops, observing how an RF spectrum changes over time or with device state, and characterizing how a device hops between frequencies. It captures bursted wireless transmissions—such as a signal entering a device over Zigbee at 900 MHz and leaving over Bluetooth at 2.4 GHz—within a single acquisition, and for embedded work it triggers across analog, digital, serial, and RF channels simultaneously to expose system-level interactions.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000-square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. Every pre-owned unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer. Operating in test and measurement since 1992, we match the right instrument to the application and back it with direct technical support.
Tektronix was founded in 1946 and built its reputation in oscilloscopes and signal analysis. The company was acquired by Danaher Corporation in 2007 and, in 2016, became part of Fortive Corporation when Fortive was spun off from Danaher.
The MDO4000 Series comprises six Mixed Domain Oscilloscope models built on the Tektronix MSO4000B Mixed Signal Oscilloscope Series. Every model shares the same architecture—four analog channels, 16 digital channels, one RF channel, a 20M-point record length, and the integrated mixed-domain analysis that defines the series—while the models differ in analog bandwidth and RF frequency range.
The model number encodes the configuration, with the analog-bandwidth tier paired to an RF-range suffix: -3 designates a 3 GHz RF input and -6 designates a 6 GHz RF input. A buyer can therefore select the analog bandwidth and RF reach an application requires without changing the instrument's core feature set.
Each pre-owned model in the series below links to its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Select the model whose analog bandwidth and RF frequency range fit your application, then choose the pre-owned listing for that model.
The models separate along two axes. Analog bandwidth steps through 100 MHz (MDO4014-3), 350 MHz (MDO4034-3), 500 MHz (MDO4054-3 and MDO4054-6), and 1 GHz (MDO4104-3 and MDO4104-6), with rise time and single-channel sample rate scaling accordingly—2.5 GS/s on the lower-bandwidth models and 5 GS/s on the 1 GHz models. The RF input is offered as either 50 kHz to 3 GHz or 50 kHz to 6 GHz.
A few capabilities track the analog-bandwidth tier: USB high-speed serial support is available only on the 1 GHz models, and ≥350 MHz models are recommended for 100BASE-TX and for telecomm mask testing above 55 Mb/s. The comparison table below lists the per-model bandwidth, sample rate, rise time, and RF range so the differences can be read at a glance.
| Model | Analog Bandwidth | RF Frequency Range | Sample Rate (1 ch) |
|---|---|---|---|
| MDO4034-3 | 350 MHz | 50 kHz - 3 GHz | 2.5 GS/s |
| MDO4014-3 | 100 MHz | 50 kHz - 3 GHz | 2.5 GS/s |
| MDO4054-3 | 500 MHz | 50 kHz - 3 GHz | 2.5 GS/s |
| MDO4054-6 | 500 MHz | 50 kHz - 6 GHz | 2.5 GS/s |
Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Important: RF input maximum operating levels: +30 dBm (1 W) average continuous power, +33 dBm (2 W) maximum CW power before damage, and ±40 V DC maximum before damage.
Important: USB high-speed serial triggering, decode, and analysis (DPO4USB) is supported only on models with 1 GHz analog channel bandwidth (MDO4104-3 and MDO4104-6).
Important: Models with ≥350 MHz bandwidth are recommended for 100BASE-TX Ethernet decode and for mask testing on telecom standards >55 Mb/s; 1 GHz bandwidth models are recommended for mask testing on high-speed (HS) USB.
Important: Serial triggering and analysis (I2C, SPI, USB, Ethernet, CAN, LIN, FlexRay, RS-232/422/485/UART, MIL-STD-1553, I2S/LJ/RJ/TDM), Power Analysis, Limit/Mask Testing, Extended/Custom Video, and Advanced RF triggering each require the corresponding optional application module.
Important: With the optional TPA-N-VPI adapter, any active 50 Ω TekVPI probe can be used with the RF input. The optional TPA-N-PRE preamplifier provides 12 dB nominal gain across the 9 kHz - 6 GHz frequency range for investigation of lower-amplitude signals.
Important: Probes and accessories are not covered by the oscilloscope warranty and service offerings. Refer to the datasheet of each probe and accessory model for its unique warranty and calibration terms.
