The RBL and RBL488 series are single-channel DC electronic loads — TDI's Dynaload line — built to sink and dissipate power from a device under test. The series is positioned for testing large batteries, power supplies, fuel cells, and other related DC power equipment, pairing high-range current capability with a constant-power feature in a single unit.
The high-range current capability and constant-power feature facilitate battery testing and analysis, while the ultra-fast slew rate provides power-supply transient testing. The ultra-low-voltage, high-current capability makes the series suited to fuel-cell testing, where the load must operate at a fraction of a volt while drawing substantial current.
ValueTronics maintains its own 20,000-square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, where it stocks and holds its own inventory. Every pre-owned unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units leave the warehouse factory-sealed exactly as received.
The RBL and RBL488 series are single-channel DC electronic loads offered in 800-watt, 2000-watt, and 4000-watt chassis, with series ratings reaching 0–1000 V, 0–1000 A, and up to 4000 W in a single unit. All five operating modes — constant current, constant resistance, constant voltage, constant power, and pulse — are common across the series.
The RBL designation denotes analog front-panel control, while the RBL488 designation adds IEEE-488 digital control; both share the same loading architecture, master/slave paralleling, internal pulse generator, and short-circuit capability.
Each model below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing for pre-owned inventory. Select the model whose full-scale voltage, current, and power ranges match your test setup, and review that page for its specific configuration.
Models in the series differ primarily in their full-scale voltage and current ranges and in chassis wattage. Among the 2000-watt configurations, for example, the available voltage range sets vary (such as 10/50/100 V, 20/200/400 V, or 20/200/600 V) and are paired with current ranges that differ by model, as shown in the comparison table.
The choice between RBL and RBL488 reflects the control method — analog front-panel versus IEEE-488 digital. Match the model's rated maximum voltage, current, and power to the source under test using the per-model ranges in the table that follows.
| Model | Max Voltage | Max Current | Max Power |
|---|---|---|---|
| RBL 100-300-2000 | 100 V | 300 A | 2000 W |
| RBL488 100-300-2000 | 100 V | 300 A | 2000 W |
| RBL 400-300-2000 | 400 V | 300 A | 2000 W |
| RBL488 400-300-2000 | 400 V | 300 A | 2000 W |

Important: When selecting a model, do not choose one rated for a given maximum voltage to test a source at that same voltage; a transient overshoot in current limit, power limit, or overvoltage could result in nuisance trip-outs or clipping of current peaks. The same applies to current and power ratings.
Important: Where applicable, stated accuracies are with respect to an externally programmed reference. Meters may be used together with calibration data for increased accuracy.
Important: Practical upper limits of pulse frequency and maximum slew rate are highly dependent on operating mode, source characteristics, and source to Dynaload wiring.
Important: For 1000 Volt ratings, refer to the separate RBL 1000V datasheet.
