The Keysight U1733C is a handheld LCR meter from the U1730C Series, designed to perform inductance, capacitance, and resistance measurements across five selectable test frequencies up to 100 kHz. As the top model in the series, the U1733C extends LCR measurement capability typically found in benchtop instruments into a portable form factor, allowing engineers and technicians to characterize passive components on the bench, on the production floor, or in the field.

An LCR meter applies a known AC test signal to a component and measures the resulting impedance to derive inductance, capacitance, resistance, and related parameters such as dissipation factor, quality factor, and phase angle. This makes the instrument essential for incoming component inspection, prototype verification, troubleshooting passive networks, and analyzing capacitor and inductor behavior at the frequencies relevant to a given circuit. The U1733C addresses these tasks with a handheld format suited to engineers who need measurement capability away from a fixed lab bench.

Brand Heritage

Keysight Technologies was formed in 2014 when Agilent Technologies separated its electronic measurement business as a stand-alone company. Agilent itself was created in 1999 as a spin-off from Hewlett-Packard's test and measurement, semiconductor, and chemical analysis divisions. The U1730C Series carries forward the handheld measurement product line developed under this lineage.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The Keysight U1730C Series consists of three handheld LCR meters: the U1731C, the U1732C, and the U1733C. All three share the same 20,000 count primary display, 0.2% basic accuracy at supported ranges, Auto-identification function, tolerance sorting modes, and the core set of LCR measurement capabilities including Z, L, C, R, D, Q, theta, and ESR.

The models differ primarily in the number of selectable test frequencies they support, the presence of a backlit display, and the availability of DCR measurement. These differences determine which model fits a given application based on the frequencies at which components must be characterized and the lighting conditions in which the instrument will be used.

Each new model below is listed on its own product page with condition-matched pricing. The comparison table that follows summarizes the practical differences between the three U1730C Series models so you can identify the right fit for your application before navigating to the specific product page.

The U1733C is the top model in the U1730C Series. It supports all five test frequencies in the family (100 Hz, 120 Hz, 1 kHz, 10 kHz, and 100 kHz), includes the backlit display also found on the U1732C, and is the only model in the series with built-in DCR (DC resistance) measurement. This makes the U1733C the appropriate selection when component characterization at 100 kHz is required, or when DC resistance measurement is part of the test workflow alongside AC LCR measurements.

Test frequency coverage is the primary differentiator. The U1731C provides three frequencies: 100 Hz, 120 Hz, and 1 kHz. The U1732C adds 10 kHz for four total frequencies. The U1733C adds 100 kHz for the full set of five frequencies.

Two additional differences distinguish the models. The backlit display is available on the U1732C and U1733C but not on the U1731C, which matters in subdued lighting environments. DCR measurement is available only on the U1733C, providing DC resistance capability alongside AC LCR measurement without needing a separate digital multimeter. See the comparison table for the specific test frequencies, display features, and measurement functions supported by each model.

Model Test Frequencies Max Frequency DCR Measurement
U1732C 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 1 kHz, 10 kHz 10 kHz No
U1731C 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 1 kHz 1 kHz No
U1733C 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 kHz 100 kHz Yes
U1731P 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 1 kHz 1 kHz No

Important: Discharge capacitors before testing. The instrument front panel carries this warning, and following it is essential to avoid damage to the meter input circuitry when measuring capacitors that may hold residual charge.Important: Accuracy is specified at 23 °C ± 5 °C with relative humidity less than 80%. The measuring mode (series or parallel) specified for each L/C/R range is described in the User Guide; necessary Open and Short corrections must be performed at the test socket before measurement.Important: For resistance ranges 2 Ω to 200 Ω, accuracy is specified only after the Null function is used to subtract the resistance of test leads and contact resistance.Important: For capacitance ranges 20 pF to 2000 pF, accuracy is specified only after Math Null is used to subtract the stray capacitance of test leads.Important: Discharge capacitor before testing (as marked on the front panel of the instrument).Recommended pairing: the U1782A SMD tweezer accessory is listed in the datasheet for measuring surface-mount components directly, and the U5481A IR-to-USB cable enables data logging to a PC for continuous measurement recording.
