Hioki CT6710 DC to 50 MHz Current Probe

Key Features At A Glance

  • Three current ranges — 30 A, 5 A, and 0.5 A — capture inrush, micro, and high-speed currents with one probe
  • Bandwidth spans DC to 50 MHz (CT6710) and DC to 120 MHz (CT6711) across the series
  • Output voltage rates of 0.1 V/A (30 A), 1 V/A (5 A), and 10 V/A (0.5 A range)
  • 10 V/A output in the 0.5 A range enables current display down to 100 µA/div on a 1 mV/div oscilloscope
  • One-touch auto-locking BNC connection requires no connector rotation when attaching to a scope or recorder
  • Built-in overload protection with a warning indicator that flashes when input exceeds the rated current
  • Measures insulated conductors up to φ5 mm in diameter
  • Powered by the Z5021 Probe Power Unit (up to four probes) or the optional 3269 Power Supply (up to two)

The CT6710 and CT6711 are clamp-style current probes from HIOKI built to capture inrush, micro, and high-speed currents with a single probe. Each model provides three selectable current ranges — 30 A, 5 A, and 0.5 A — so current can be analyzed across a broad span of operating conditions from one instrument, with the operating range chosen using the range keys on the relay box.

These probes support current-consumption and current-waveform analysis such as observing the current draw of a Bluetooth Low Energy device while it sends and receives data, capturing the inrush current that flows when an electrical device is switched on, and observing micro currents on the order of several hundred microamperes. They connect to oscilloscopes and to the Memory HiCorder MR6000 for these measurements.

ValueTronics, in business since 1992, stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 square foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The CT6710/CT6711 form a two-model current-probe series that shares a common three-range architecture — 30 A, 5 A, and 0.5 A — and differs primarily in frequency range and rise time. Both models capture inrush, micro, and high-speed currents with a single probe and select their operating range from the relay box.

Within the series, the two probes share the same current ranges, output voltage rates (0.1 V/A, 1 V/A, and 10 V/A), maximum rated currents, and protective features, so the choice between them centers on the required bandwidth rather than current-handling capability.

Each new model below is its own product page with condition-matched pricing. Select the model whose frequency range and rise time match your measurement needs; the comparison table that follows summarizes how the probes differ.

The principal difference between the models is bandwidth: the CT6710 covers DC to 50 MHz while the CT6711 covers DC to 120 MHz. Rise time tracks that difference, at 7.0 ns or less for the CT6710 and 2.9 ns or less for the CT6711.

The models also differ in their susceptibility to external magnetic fields — under a DC or 60 Hz, 400 A/m field the CT6710 shows 20 mA or less of effect versus 5 mA or less for the CT6711. The comparison table below details these per-model values alongside the shared range, output-rate, and accuracy specifications.

Model Frequency Range Rise Time Current Ranges
CT6710 DC to 50 MHz 7.0 ns or less 30 A / 5 A / 0.5 A
CT6711 DC to 120 MHz 2.9 ns or less 30 A / 5 A / 0.5 A

Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Important: Caution: input currents that exceed the frequency derating for the 30 A range may cause measurement circuit damage before the protection function can operate.
Important: Refrain from use for at least 20 seconds after a maximum peak current input due to generated heat (30 A range, ±50 A peak, maximum 2 sec input).
Important: A built-in overload protection function and warning indicator guard against excessive input: if an incorrect range is selected and a current exceeding that range's rated current is input, the warning indicator flashes and the function protects the instrument from overheating damage.
Important: These current probes require a probe power source to operate: connect them to the Z5021 Probe Power Unit (up to four CT6710/CT6711 probes) or the 3269 Power Supply (up to two CT6710/CT6711 probes), ordered separately.
