The Anritsu MS2028B VNA Master is a handheld, battery-operated two-port vector network analyzer covering 5 kHz to 20 GHz. It is part of a two-model series that also includes the MS2026B (5 kHz to 6 GHz), and is designed for precision S-parameter measurements of cables, antennas, filters, and other passive and active components in field environments. The instrument weighs less than 4.5 kg including battery and measures 315 x 211 x 78 mm.

The VNA Master is built for installation and maintenance personnel supporting aerospace, defense, and general-purpose RF and microwave systems — including naval radars, military vehicle antennas, flight-line test on aircraft, wireless communication systems, VHF Omni-directional Range (VOR) navigation, direction-finding reconnaissance, and short-range weather observatories. Typical applications include verifying antennas, phase matching cables and waveguides, locating problems using Distance-to-Fault, and characterizing isolators, circulators, filters, and duplexers for transmit and receive path signal separation.

ValueTronics stocks, tests, and ships the VNA Master series from our 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive, Elgin, Illinois. Every unit is inspected and verified by our technicians before shipment, with calibration upgrade paths available on request. Unlike drop-shippers and pass-through brokers, we hold physical inventory and provide direct technical support from staff who work with this instrument category every day.

Brand Heritage

Anritsu Corporation is a Japanese precision measurement company with roots dating to 1895. Its current RF and microwave test capability was significantly shaped by the 1993 acquisition of Wiltron Company, which brought North American network analyzer and signal generator technology into the Anritsu portfolio. Instruments and product lines previously sold under the Wiltron name are now supported under the Anritsu brand.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The VNA Master series consists of two models that share the same handheld form factor, 12-term error correction architecture, three-receiver design, and software option set. The models differ only in upper frequency coverage, allowing users to select the instrument that matches their application's highest measurement frequency.

Both models support the same standard N-type test ports, identical sweep performance of 750 µsec/point, the same 8.4 inch TFT display, and the full set of optional capabilities including Time Domain Analysis, Vector Voltmeter mode, Bias Tee, and GPS. The K(f) precision connector option is unique to the MS2028B.

Each pre-owned model below is listed on its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing and availability. Use the comparison table to confirm the frequency coverage required for your application, then navigate to the specific model page for current inventory and full specifications.

The MS2028B extends frequency coverage to 20 GHz, making it suitable for K-band applications, broadband satellite and radar work, and any test environment where the highest measurement frequency exceeds 6 GHz. It is the only model in the series that supports the optional precision K(f) connector configuration for measurements to 20 GHz.

The primary distinction between the two models is upper frequency coverage: the MS2026B reaches 6 GHz and the MS2028B reaches 20 GHz. Both share the same 5 kHz low-frequency limit. For applications confined to general wireless (cellular, WiFi 2.4/5 GHz, broadcast through C-band), the MS2026B covers the requirement. For Ku-band, K-band, and broader microwave work, the MS2028B is required.

The MS2028B also supports the optional K(f) Test Port Connectors (Option 0011) for precision measurements to 20 GHz — this option is not available on the MS2026B. All other options (Time Domain, Power Monitor, Secure Data, Bias Tee, Vector Voltmeter, High Accuracy Power Meter, GPS Receiver, Balanced/Differential S-Parameters) are available on both models. Refer to the comparison table below for the complete specification breakdown.

Model Frequency Range Number of Ports Test Port Connectors
MS2028B 5 kHz to 20 GHz 2 Type-N (standard); K(f) optional (Option 0011)
MS2026B 5 kHz to 6 GHz 2 Type-N

Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Important: The K(f) Test Port Connectors option on the MS2028B is not field-replaceable — connector type must be specified at time of order.Important: Option 0011 K(f) Test Port Connectors is available on the MS2028B only. The K(f) connectors are not field replaceable; specify your preference at time of ordering.Important: Option 0031 GPS Receiver requires a separately ordered magnetic mount GPS antenna (Anritsu part number 2000-1528-R) with a 15 ft (~5 m) cable for outdoor metallic mounting.Important: Option 0005 Power Monitor requires a separately purchased Anritsu 560 series external RF detector (e.g., 560-7N50B, 10 MHz to 20 GHz).Important: Option 0019 High Accuracy Power Meter requires a separately purchased Anritsu USB power sensor (PSN50, MA24104A, MA24106A, MA24108A, or MA24118A).Important: Waveguide measurements require an optional external coaxial-to-waveguide adapter (sold separately, available in popular flange types) and waveguide calibration components in place of coaxial Open/Short/Load standards.Important: Once configured for Secure Data Operation (Option 0007), the VNA Master cannot be switched between secure and non-secure operation by the user.Important: Calibration standards (Open/Short/Load kits) are required for accurate measurements and are sold separately — select the appropriate kit for your test port connector type (N, K, TNC, or 7/16).Recommended pairing: when using Power Monitor mode (Option 0005), an Anritsu 560-series detector is required separately — the 560-7N50B covers 10 MHz to 20 GHz with -50 to +20 dBm measurement range. For High Accuracy Power Meter mode (Option 0019), a compatible Anritsu USB power sensor (PSN50, MA24104A, MA24106A, MA24108A, or MA24118A) is required.
