B&K Precision 9242-GPIB Multi-Range DC Power Supply, 60V/10A 200W with GPIB

Key Features At A Glance

  • Multi-range output delivers rated power across a curve of voltage/current combinations rather than a single point
  • Output ranges across the series span 0–32 V/0–8 A (120 W) to 0–60 V/0–10 A (200 W)
  • Low output noise: ≤ 1 mVrms (9240) and ≤ 2 mVrms (9241/9242) normal mode voltage
  • Advanced list mode programming with up to 100 steps per list and internal storage for 10 list programs
  • Dedicated battery charge mode with configurable fail-safe conditions (Stop Time, Stop Ah, Stop Wh)
  • Direct data logging to USB flash drive in CSV format with adjustable sampling interval
  • Adjustable voltage slew rate (0.005 V/ms to 3.2 V/ms) and current slew rate (1 mA/ms to 1000 mA/ms) for inrush control
  • LAN (LXI 1.5), USB (USBTMC and Virtual COM), and optional GPIB standard for ATE integration

The BK Precision 9241 is part of the 9240 Series Multi-Range DC Power Supplies, a family of compact 2U half-rack instruments engineered to deliver up to 200 W of clean, isolated, floating output power. The 9241 specifically provides 0–60 V and 0–4 A at up to 120 W of multi-range power, combining a high-resolution 4.3-inch LCD, front-panel keypad and rotary knob control, and a feature set typically reserved for higher-tier instruments — including advanced list mode programming, dedicated battery charge mode, and direct USB data logging.

According to its published specifications, the 9240 Series serves production test, R&D, electronic service, and educational applications. The dedicated battery charge mode supports user-configurable charge voltage, current limit, termination current, and end delay parameters, with fail-safe stop conditions on time, amp-hours, or watt-hours — making it well suited for battery characterization and charging workflows. The advanced list mode supports up to 100 steps per program with adjustable dwell, BOST/EOST triggering, and configurable termination behavior, enabling complex repetitive test sequences directly from the front panel or via remote control. An LED test mode is also provided to reduce inrush current when powering LED panels and similar capacitive loads.

ValueTronics has been supplying new and pre-owned test and measurement equipment since 1992 from its 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse and operations center at 1675 Cambridge Drive, Elgin, Illinois. Every instrument we sell is inspected and verified by our in-house technical team before shipment, so the unit listed here is the unit you receive — not a drop-shipped or pass-through transaction. Our engineers know this product family, understand the applications it serves, and stand behind the specifications we publish.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The 9240 Series consists of three models that share the same 2U half-rack chassis, the same 4.3-inch LCD interface, the same isolated and floating output architecture with front-panel remote sense, and the same advanced list mode, battery charge mode, USB data logging, and LXI / USB / optional GPIB connectivity. What differs across the family is the output envelope and maximum power: the 9240 covers 0–32 V at up to 8 A (120 W), the 9241 covers 0–60 V at up to 4 A (120 W), and the 9242 covers 0–60 V at up to 10 A (200 W).

The multi-range architecture is consistent across all three models — each delivers its rated power across a curve of voltage/current combinations rather than at a single operating point. This means each model is best matched to the V/I region its envelope covers, and selecting between them depends primarily on the maximum voltage your device under test requires and the current it draws at that voltage.

Each new model in the 9240 family is listed as its own product page with condition-matched pricing and availability. Use the comparison below to confirm the output envelope you need, then click through to the model page for current stock, included accessories, and ordering.

The 9241 occupies the 60 V / 4 A / 120 W position in the family. It is the right choice when your application needs the higher 60 V output ceiling but does not require the 10 A current capacity of the 9242 — for example, charging or characterizing 36 V and 48 V nominal battery packs, biasing higher-voltage analog circuits, or driving devices that need voltage headroom more than current. The 9241 has the same 120 W power ceiling as the 9240, but trades current capacity for voltage range.

Choose the 9240 (32 V / 8 A / 120 W) when your applications stay below ~30 V and benefit from higher current — typical for general benchtop electronics work, 5 V/12 V/24 V rail testing, and low-voltage embedded systems. Choose the 9241 (60 V / 4 A / 120 W) when you need the 60 V output ceiling but your current demand stays under 4 A — common for 48 V telecom rails, smaller battery packs, and higher-voltage analog circuits. Choose the 9242 (60 V / 10 A / 200 W) when you need both the 60 V range and substantial current, or when the higher 200 W power budget matters — typical for larger battery charging applications, higher-power converter testing, and motor or actuator validation within the 60 V envelope.

All three models share the same protection feature set (OVP, OCP, OTP, key-lock), the same connectivity (LXI LAN, USB, optional GPIB), the same battery charge mode and list mode capabilities, and the same 3-year warranty. The decision between them is fundamentally about output envelope — see the comparison table that follows for the exact voltage, current, power, and protection ranges side by side.

Model Voltage Range Current Range Maximum Output Power
9242-GPIB 0 to 60 V 0 to 10 A 200 W
9240 0 to 32 V 0 to 8 A 120 W
9240-GPIB 0 to 32 V 0 to 8 A 120 W
9241 0 to 60 V 0 to 4 A 120 W
