The Agilent 4395A Network/Spectrum/Impedance Analyzer is a combination analyzer that integrates three distinct analyzer functions — a vector network analyzer, a spectrum analyzer, and an optional impedance analyzer — into a single instrument covering 10 Hz to 500 MHz. Part of the broader Agilent combination analyzer family that also includes the 1.8 GHz 4396B, the 4395A allows engineers to switch between vector network, spectrum, and impedance measurements with the push of a button rather than maintaining separate dedicated instruments on the bench.

The 4395A is positioned for evaluating electronic components and circuits where both vector network and spectrum parameters are required — including measuring intermodulation distortion and phase performance of components used in digital communication systems, and characterizing monolithic ICs or circuit blocks. The instrument is also applied in the design and test of CATV, GPS, GSM, HDTV, VSAT, VCR, optical disk drives, mobile radio, and cellular communications equipment as described in the product literature. Component-level applications specifically cited include amplifiers (linear and non-linear characterization, intermodulation distortion), mixers (conversion signal measurement, distortion, harmonics), oscillators (reflection coefficient, oscillation frequency, harmonics, noise), and filters (passband, stopband, group delay, and phase).

ValueTronics International stocks, inspects, and tests the Agilent 4395A and the broader combination analyzer family at its 20,000-square-foot secure facility at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. As a specialist in both new and previously owned test and measurement equipment, ValueTronics handles the 4395A in-house — including verification of the instrument, its installed options, and its supporting test sets and accessories — rather than drop-shipping from an outside warehouse.

Brand Heritage

The 4395A and 4396B were developed under the Agilent Technologies brand, which was formed in 1999 when Hewlett-Packard spun off its test and measurement business. In 2014, Agilent's electronic measurement business was further separated as Keysight Technologies, which is the current corporate steward of the product line described in this datasheet.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The Agilent combination analyzer family covered by this datasheet consists of two models that share the same three-analyzer-in-one concept — vector network analysis, spectrum analysis, and optional impedance analysis — but differ in their upper frequency coverage and certain headline specifications. Both instruments share the same color TFT LCD, dual-channel architecture, IBASIC programmability, 1.44 MB floppy disk drive, GPIB and digital I/O interfaces, and the same general approach to calibration and compensation.

Within the family, the 4395A covers 10 Hz to 500 MHz and the 4396B extends to 1.8 GHz, with corresponding differences in source power range, dynamic range, and spectrum analyzer noise sidebands and sensitivity as published in the datasheet. The model-specific specifications are summarized in the comparison table that follows.

Each pre-owned model below is listed on its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing, availability, and supporting documentation. Selecting the model that matches the required upper frequency, source power, and dynamic range is the first step; condition and option configuration follow from that selection.

The 4395A specifically targets applications from 10 Hz through 500 MHz where the combination of vector network, spectrum, and optional impedance analysis in one instrument provides a complete component-evaluation workflow without requiring a separate higher-frequency platform. The 4395A is also the model in the family that offers Option 001 DC source (±40 V, 100 mA ALC) as an integrated DC bias capability per the datasheet.

The principal published differences between the 4395A and 4396B are in their network and spectrum analyzer coverage and selected specifications. The 4395A covers 10 Hz to 500 MHz for both network and spectrum analysis, with output power from −50 to +15 dBm, 115 dB dynamic range at 10 Hz IFBW, spectrum RBW from 1 Hz to 1 MHz, noise sidebands typically below −104 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset, and sensitivity of −145 dBm/Hz at 10 MHz. The 4396B covers 100 kHz to 1.8 GHz for network analysis (2 Hz to 1.8 GHz for spectrum), with output power from −60 to +20 dBm, greater than 120 dB dynamic range at 10 Hz IFBW, RBW from 1 Hz to 3 MHz, noise sidebands typically below −113 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset, and sensitivity below −147 dBm/Hz at 1 GHz.

Optional features also differ across the family. Both models offer impedance measurement (Option 010) with the 43961A test kit, time-gated spectrum analysis (Option 1D6), high-stability frequency reference (Option 1D5), and 50 Ω to 75 Ω spectrum input impedance conversion (Option 1D7). The 4395A additionally offers Option 001 DC source. The selection of S-parameter test set also differs: the 87511A/B is specified for the 4395A, while the 85046A/B is specified for the 4396B.

Model Frequency Range (Network) Frequency Range (Spectrum) Output Power Range
4395A 10 Hz to 500 MHz 10 Hz to 500 MHz -50 to 15 dBm
4396B 100 kHz to 1.8 GHz 2 Hz to 1.8 GHz -60 to 20 dBm

Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Important: Direct impedance measurement on the 4395A requires both Option 010 (impedance measurement function) and the Agilent 43961A RF impedance test kit. DC bias to ±40 V (20 mA max) requires the Option 001 DC source or an external DC source.Important: Test fixtures, a keyboard, and a printed manual are not furnished as standard with the 4395A or 4396B. These items must be ordered separately as required.Important: Direct impedance measurements require the addition of Option 439xx-010 and the Agilent 43961A RF impedance test kit (sold separately).Important: S-parameter test sets (87511A/B for 4395A; 85046A/B for 4396B) are required for full forward and reverse S-parameter measurements and are sold separately.Important: For 4396B impedance measurements, an external DC bias source is required. For 4395A impedance measurements, the Option 4395A-001 DC source or an external DC source is required.Important: Disk drive operating region: 10 °C to 40 °C and 15% to 80% RH (narrower than the instrument's general operating range).Recommended pairing: for full two-port S-parameter measurements with the 4395A, the datasheet specifies the Agilent 87511A (50 Ω, 7-mm or type-N test port) or 87511B (75 Ω, type-N test port) S-parameter test set covering 100 kHz to 500 MHz.
