The Agilent N5230C is a two-port PNA-L microwave network analyzer. It measures the vector S-parameters of a device under test, capturing both transmission and reflection magnitude and phase, and is offered in several option configurations that set the upper frequency limit, the test-set type, and the available source power range.
A network analyzer characterizes how a component or network transmits and reflects signals across frequency, producing the S-parameter data engineers use to evaluate cables, connectors, filters, amplifiers, and other passive and active microwave devices. The N5230C performs full two-port calibrated measurements and also supports group-delay measurement, computed from the phase change across a specified frequency aperture, as well as one-path transmission measurements using its direct receiver access input for extended dynamic range on high-insertion-loss devices.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. Every used unit we sell is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received, so buyers get instruments sourced and handled directly by our own team.
The instrument carries Agilent Technologies branding. Agilent was spun out of Hewlett-Packard in 1999, and Agilent's electronic measurement business was subsequently established as Keysight Technologies in 2014.
The N5230C is offered in a range of option configurations that differ primarily in upper frequency limit and test-set design. Frequency options provide upper limits of 6 GHz, 13.5 GHz, 20 GHz, 40 GHz, or 50 GHz, and each frequency tier is available with either a standard test set and standard power range or a configurable test set with extended power range.
The standard test set options (020, 120, 220, 420, 520) have no front-panel jumpers, while the configurable test set, extended-power-range options (025, 125, 225, 425, 525) add front-panel receiver and source jumpers and a direct receiver access input for extended dynamic range.
Each pre-owned configuration linked below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Select the option that matches the frequency range, connector type, and power-range capability your application requires.
The configurations differ in upper frequency limit (6, 13.5, 20, 40, or 50 GHz), test port connector type (3.5 mm on options through 20 GHz, 2.4 mm on the 40 and 50 GHz options), and IF bandwidth range (1 Hz to 600 kHz nominal on the 6 and 13.5 GHz options, 1 Hz to 250 kHz nominal on the others). The standard versus configurable test-set choice further determines source power range, with extended-power-range options offering wider power sweep and a direct receiver access input.
Corrected system performance, including directivity, source and load match, and dynamic range, also varies by frequency band and option as detailed in the comparison table that follows. Review the table to confirm which option meets your required frequency coverage, connector interface, and dynamic range before ordering.
| Model | Frequency Range | Test Port Connector | Test Set / Power Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| N5230C | 300 kHz to 6 GHz | 3.5 mm (male), 50 ohm | Standard test set, standard power range |

Important: The display must remain in the 16-bit color setting in order to comply with international emissions regulations.
Important: This is a subset of technical specifications for the N5230C network analyzer. To view or print the full N5230C technical specifications, visit www.agilent.com/find/pnal.
Important: All specifications and characteristics apply over a 25 °C ± 5 °C range (unless otherwise stated) and 90 minutes after the instrument has been turned on.
Important: The N5230C Option 020, 120, 220, 420, or 520 (standard test set and standard power range) has no front-panel jumpers; only the configurable test set / extended power range options (025, 125, 225, 425, 525) provide front-panel jumpers.
Important: Corrected (calibrated) measurements require a compatible calibration kit or ECal module and a flexible test port cable set (e.g., 85052B / 85056A / 85032B calibration kit, N4691A / N4693A ECal module, 85131F / 85133F cable set); these are referenced in this datasheet as separate items applicable to the configurable test set / extended power range options.
Recommended pairing: use the 85052B (3.5 mm), 85056A (2.4 mm), or 85032B (Type-N) calibration kit, or an N4691A/N4693A electronic calibration module, with the matching flexible test port cable set for full two-port calibration.
