The FLIR TA72 and TA74 are Universal Flex Current Probe accessories designed to add AC current measurement capability to an existing meter. Each uses a narrow, flexible coil clamp with a locking mechanism, letting an operator take measurements in tight or awkward spots that are difficult to reach with a traditional hard-jaw clamp meter. The connection is a standard banana plug and the output is a voltage signal, making the probes compatible with most DMMs and clamp meters regardless of brand.
These flexible probes are built to conquer tricky conductors: the coil snakes around obstacles with ease, even in deep, crowded cabinets, and can measure multiple conductors and targets in spaces with limited clearance. The longer coil additionally supports larger and multiple-conductor measurements, double-wrap requirements, and deeper access.
ValueTronics has specialized in new and used test-and-measurement equipment since 1992, stocking and holding its own inventory in a 20,000-square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois.
FLIR Systems was acquired by Teledyne Technologies in 2021, and its test-and-measurement and thermal-imaging product lines now operate under the Teledyne FLIR brand.
The FLIR TA72/TA74 Universal Flex Current Probe family consists of two flexible-coil current probe accessories that share the same core measurement capability and differ in coil length and conductor capacity. Both add switchable 30A/300A/3000A AC current measurement to an existing meter through a standard banana-plug, AC-voltage-output connection.
Both models use a narrow flexible coil with a locking mechanism for measurements in tight or awkward spots, include dual white LED worklights, and carry the same CAT IV 600V / CAT III 1000V safety rating and limited lifetime warranty with registration.
Each new model below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Select the coil length that fits your conductor-access needs, then choose the new listing for that model.
The primary difference between the two models is coil length and conductor capacity. The TA72 uses a 10-inch (25 cm) coil and accepts a maximum conductor diameter of 2.4 inches (6 cm) for easy maneuverability and compact convenience. The TA74 uses an 18-inch (45 cm) coil and accepts up to 4.7 inches (12 cm), supporting larger and multiple-conductor measurements, double-wrap requirements, and deeper access.
The two models also differ in positional error across distance from the optimum coil position, as shown in the comparison table below. Shared specifications include the 3000A maximum AC current, ±3.0% + 5 digit basic accuracy, 45–500Hz bandwidth, 0.3-inch (7.5 mm) flex coil diameter, and 73-inch (1.9 m) cable.
| Model | Flex Coil Length | Max Conductor Diameter | Max AC Current |
|---|---|---|---|
| TA72 | 10" (25cm) | 2.4" (6cm) | 3000A |
| TA74 | 18" (45cm) | 4.7" (12cm) | 3000A |
Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.
