The Tektronix Z-Active Differential Probe Family comprises four models — the P7313, P7380A, P7360A, and P7340A — built on Tektronix's Z-Active probing architecture, a hybrid approach composed of a distributed attenuator topology feeding an active probe amplifier. The design uses a small passive probe tip element separate from the amplifier to extend the usable reach of the probe while maintaining high DC input resistance and presenting a higher AC impedance than previous probe architectures. The result combines the high DC impedance of active probes with the stable high-frequency loading characteristics of Z0 probes.
These differential probes are intended for high-speed serial and logic signal measurement. Application examples cited for the family include PCI-Express I and II, Serial ATA II, USB 2.0, DDR II, DDR III, Firewire 1394b, Rambus, and XAUI. Many of today's logic and serial bus signals require the capability to measure up to several volts peak to peak, which the extended linear dynamic range of the P7380A, P7360A, and P7340A is designed to accommodate at reduced noise levels.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, and has specialized in new and used test and measurement equipment since 1992. Every used unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer.
The Z-Active Differential Probe Family is a four-model series — P7340A, P7360A, P7380A, and P7313 — that shares a common Z-Active architecture, TekConnect interface, and Tip-Clip interchangeable tip system. The models are distinguished primarily by typical bandwidth and the associated rise-time and loading characteristics, allowing a measurement system to be matched to the signal speed of the application.
All four members use the same hybrid distributed-attenuator-plus-active-amplifier approach to preserve signal fidelity with low loading. They share 5x/25x user-selectable attenuation and 100 kΩ differential DC input resistance, so the architectural behavior is consistent across the family even as the headline bandwidth and dynamic-range figures scale per model.

The P7313 is the highest-bandwidth member of the family at a typical >12.5 GHz, with a guaranteed 10%-90% rise time of <40 ps and a differential AC loading Zmin of >200 Ω. It is supplied with high-bandwidth (HBW) straight and right-angle flex Tip-Clip assemblies and a wire replacement kit that are specific to this model, and its CMRR specification extends to >15 dB at 12.5 GHz.
The models differ chiefly in typical bandwidth — >4 GHz (P7340A), >6 GHz (P7360A), >8 GHz (P7380A), and >12.5 GHz (P7313) — and in the corresponding guaranteed rise times, which range from <100 ps on the P7340A to <40 ps on the P7313. Differential input range and the extended linear dynamic range figures also vary: the P7380A, P7360A, and P7340A provide a 2.0 Vp-p (5x) and 5.0 Vp-p (25x) linear dynamic range, while the P7313 lists 1.25 Vp-p (5x) and 4 Vp-p (25x).
Other distinctions include cable length (1.5 m on the P7340A and P7360A; 1.2 m on the P7380A and P7313) and differences in the standard Tip-Clip assembly mix, with the P7313 adding HBW flex assemblies and a wire replacement kit. The comparison table that follows lists the per-model bandwidth, rise time, dynamic range, AC loading, CMRR, and cable-length values side by side.
| Model | Bandwidth (Typical) | Rise Time (10%-90%) | Differential Input Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| P7380A | >8 GHz | <55 ps | ±1.0 V (5x), ±2.5 V (25x) |
| P7313 | >12.5 GHz | <40 ps | ±0.625 V (5x), ±2.0 V (25x) |
| P7360A | >6 GHz | <70 ps | ±1.0 V (5x), ±2.5 V (25x) |
| P7340A | >4 GHz | <100 ps | ±1.0 V (5x), ±2.5 V (25x) |
