The Z-Active Differential Probe Family from Tektronix is a high-speed differential probing solution built on the Z-Active probing architecture, a hybrid approach composed of a distributed attenuator topology feeding an active probe amplifier. The family comprises two models, the P7313 and the P7380, and uses a tiny passive probe tip element that is separate from the amplifier to extend the usable reach of the probe. The architecture maintains high DC input resistance while presenting a higher AC impedance than previous probe architectures, combining high DC impedance like existing active probes with the stable high-frequency loading of Z0 probes.
These differential probes are intended for high-speed serial and memory bus measurement work. Listed application examples include, but are not limited to, PCI-Express I and II, Serial ATA II, USB 2.0, DDRII, Rambus, and XAUI. The interchangeable Tip-Clip assembly system lets the same probe move between solder-in, handheld, and fixtured connections, so a solder-in probe can become a handheld tool simply by switching tips.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, so the instruments and accessories we list are equipment we keep on hand rather than source on demand. Every used unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house against the manufacturer's specifications before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received. That combination of held inventory and hands-on verification of pre-owned stock is what lets us stand behind the condition of what we sell.
The Z-Active Differential Probe Family is built around the Z-Active probing architecture and is offered in two models, the P7313 and the P7380. Both share the same hybrid topology, a distributed attenuator feeding an active probe amplifier, and the same interchangeable Tip-Clip connectivity system; they differ primarily in headline bandwidth and the rise-time and high-frequency loading figures that follow from it.
Across the family the probes provide high bandwidth, excellent step response, low loading, and high CMRR, with user-selectable 5X or 25X attenuation, a 100 KΩ differential DC input resistance, and a TekConnect interface. The shared Tip-Clip assemblies let either model switch between solder-down, handheld, and fixtured probing.
Each model below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing for the pre-owned configuration. Select the model that matches your bandwidth and connectivity requirements, then choose the listing that reflects the condition and price you need.
The two models differ chiefly by bandwidth tier: the P7313 is specified at greater than 12.5 GHz typical bandwidth, while the P7380 is specified at greater than 8 GHz typical. That difference carries through to rise time, where the P7313 is guaranteed at less than 40 ps (10% to 90%) versus less than 55 ps for the P7380, and to AC loading, where differential Zmin is greater than 250 Ω for the P7313 and greater than 290 Ω for the P7380. Published CMRR figures also extend to higher frequencies on the P7313, including a greater than 15 dB figure at 12.5 GHz.
The models also differ in their accessory complements: the P7313 includes high-bandwidth flex Tip-Clip assemblies and a wire replacement kit not listed for the P7380, while the P7380 includes large-resistor Tip-Clip variants of its own. The comparison table that follows lists the per-model bandwidth, rise time, AC loading, and accessory differences side by side.
| Model | Bandwidth | Rise Time (10% to 90%) | Rise Time (20% to 80%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| P7380 | >8 GHz | <55 ps | <35 ps |
| P7313 | >12.5 GHz | <40 ps | <25 ps |
Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.
