The Astro-Med Dash 8XPM combines power monitoring and data acquisition in one system. It pairs the data acquisition recording of the Dash 8Xe with AstroPower monitoring software, delivering the capabilities of a high-end data acquisition recorder and a dedicated power monitoring system in a single portable tool. Using the standard Dash 8Xe software the system operates as a data acquisition recorder; switching to AstroPower software turns it into a power quality and disturbance monitor that can record power trends, events and transients for days, weeks or months at a time.
A power monitoring recorder logs electrical signals over time so that intermittent disturbances can be identified and analyzed after the fact. The Dash 8XPM is used to monitor power quality and the disturbances that can disrupt the operation of electrical equipment, logging power interrupts, sags, swells, frequency deviations, harmonics, interharmonics and unbalances. Running the standard Dash 8Xe software, it also serves as a data acquisition recorder for long-term trend recording, traditional data capture, and oscilloscope recording for maintenance troubleshooting applications. Because review and analysis require no PC, the system works as an on-site troubleshooting tool.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 square foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, which lets us ship from instruments we physically hold rather than source on demand. Every pre-owned unit is handled to a consistent standard: pre-owned units are inspected and functionally verified in-house before shipment, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer.
This instrument is built by Astro-Med, Inc., a Rhode Island-based manufacturer that is system certified to ISO 9001. Astro-Med, Inc. adopted the corporate name AstroNova, Inc. in 2016.
The Dash 8XPM belongs to Astro-Med's Dash line of portable, hard-drive-based recorders that capture data directly to an internal disk for later review and analysis. Within that line, the Dash 8XPM is distinguished by combining the data acquisition functionality of the Dash 8Xe with AstroPower monitoring software, so a single unit performs both general data acquisition recording and dedicated power-quality monitoring.
Other recorders in the Dash line share the same direct-to-disk recording approach but differ in channel count, input type, and sample rate. The selection across the line spans modular-input and universal-input designs and a range of per-channel sample rates, allowing the recorder to be matched to the signal type and speed of the application.
Each model listed below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing, so the pre-owned unit you select is priced and described for that specific configuration. Choose the model that matches your channel count, input type, and recording-speed requirements, then select the listing for the condition you need.
What sets the Dash 8XPM apart within the Dash line is its dual role: it provides the Dash 8Xe's data acquisition recording while adding AstroPower software for power monitoring. That combination lets one instrument capture continuous power trends at 6,250 samples per second per channel, log power events, and capture transients at 200 kHz per channel, alongside traditional trend recording and oscilloscope recording for maintenance troubleshooting.
The Dash recorders differ primarily in channels, input type, and sample rate. The Dash 8Xe offers 8 channels of modular inputs with data acquisition to its internal hard drive at a 200 kHz sample rate per channel. The Dash 18X offers 18 channels of universal inputs at a 100 kHz sample rate per channel. The Dash 8HF offers 8 channels of analog inputs at a 2 MHz sample rate with 200 kHz bandwidth.
The Dash 8XPM itself provides 8 channels (4 voltage and 4 current when no auxiliary channels are used), continuous recording at 6,250 samples per second per channel for up to 88 hours, and transient capture at 200,000 samples per second per channel, with AstroPower power-monitoring software included. Refer to the comparison table for the channel, input-type, and sample-rate values that distinguish each model.
