A clamp-on AC current sensor measures current flowing through a conductor without breaking the circuit, clamping its jaw around the wire to sense the magnetic field the current produces. The Hioki CT7116 is an AC Leakage Current Sensor built for this purpose, supporting AC current measurement with a rated current of 6 A. It uses high-permeability material for its jaws and magnetic shield, enabling it to measure subtle currents with high accuracy. The sensor terminates in a Hioki PL14 output connector, allowing a compatible instrument to automatically recognize it for simple setup.
The CT7116 supports load current measurement, leakage current measurement, and checking for insulation faults. For leakage measurement it can be clamped around a single conductor, around conductors in a bundle, or around the ground (PE) conductor, and it accommodates single-phase two-wire, single-phase three-wire, three-phase three-wire, and three-phase four-wire systems. By measuring the leakage currents flowing through each conductor in a circuit, it helps determine whether an earth leakage is present based on the variation in those currents, and the bundle measurement can be moved from the source toward the load in steps to localize an insulation fault.

Important: Maximum measured current: 10 A RMS continuous (within the frequency derating curve) and 30 A peak; rated measured current 6 A AC.
Important: This current sensor has a Hioki PL14 output connector and must be connected to a compatible Hioki instrument to operate; the sensor is automatically recognized when connected.
Important: Load Current Measurement: Attach the clamp around only one conductor. If you clamp single-phase (2-wire) or three-phase (3-wire) conductors together, the device will not be able to make a measurement.
Important: If a strong current (on the order of 100 A) is flowing through an adjacent circuit, accurate measurement may not be possible. Perform the measurement at a sufficient distance from other current-carrying conductors.
Important: A current with special waveform such as one flowing through the secondary side of an inverter may not be measured correctly.
Important: To extend the cable, use of only the optional Model L0220 series is allowed; the cable is extendable by up to 10 m. If two or more extension cables are connected in series or the cable is extended by more than 10 m, the device can operate but no performances are guaranteed.
Recommended pairing: extend reach with the optional L0220-series Extension Cables — L0220-01 (2 m), L0220-02 (5 m), or L0220-03 (10 m) — for up to 10 m of total length.
