The HIOKI CT6844, CT6845, and CT6846 are clamp-on AC/DC current probes built around an ergonomic clamp design that delivers single-handed, one-touch opening and closing. The compact form lets the clamp reach into tangled wiring, while the larger-diameter models are sized to clamp even thick cables and double wiring. Across the series the sensors are engineered for consistent, high-precision high-current measurement over a wide temperature range, with reduced sensitivity to where the conductor sits inside the clamp core and to current flowing in nearby wires.

These current probes are positioned for EV/HEV and PV (photovoltaic) work and for the operational evaluation of devices inside equipment that is subject to extreme temperature changes. Because they hold high-current accuracy over a broad temperature span, they are well suited to measurements taken in thermostatic chambers and engine rooms. The clamp's tolerance to conductor position and to noise from nearby conductors makes it practical for measuring in crowded, real-world wiring rather than only on an isolated bench setup.

The CT6844, CT6845, and CT6846 form a single AC/DC current probe series that shares an ergonomic, one-touch clamp design and a basic amplitude accuracy of +/-0.3% rdg. +/-0.01% f.s. at 50/60 Hz. The models differ in rated primary current, frequency characteristics, and the maximum conductor diameter the clamp will accept, allowing a measurement task to be matched to the right combination of current range, bandwidth, and cable size.

The CT6844 is the wide-bandwidth member of the series, rated 500 A AC/DC from DC to 200 kHz with a clamp sized for conductors up to 20 mm. It also holds the tightest conductor-position effect in the series at +/-0.1% rdg. or less and the lowest external-magnetic-field effect at 100 mA or less, in the most compact 153W x 67H x 25D mm, 400 g body.

The three models separate primarily on current rating, bandwidth, and conductor size. The CT6844 covers 500 A AC/DC, DC to 200 kHz, and conductors up to 20 mm; the CT6845 covers 500 A AC/DC, DC to 100 kHz, and conductors up to 50 mm; and the CT6846 covers 1000 A AC/DC, DC to 20 kHz, and conductors up to 50 mm. Output voltage is 4 mV/A on the CT6844 and CT6845 and 2 mV/A on the CT6846.

Secondary characteristics also track with the model. Conductor-position effect is +/-0.1% rdg. or less on the CT6844 versus +/-0.2% rdg. or less on the CT6845 and CT6846, and external-magnetic-field effect is 100 mA or less on the CT6844 versus 150 mA or less on the larger two. Important: These AC/DC current probes are sensor units that require a compatible HIOKI power meter to supply power and read their output: the PL23-connector models (CT6844/CT6845/CT6846) work with the PW6001, 3390 and 3193-10; the ME15W-connector models (CT6844-05/CT6845-05/CT6846-05) work with the 3334-10. The power meter is sold separately.

Important: For output to an oscilloscope or recorder, the Connection Cord L9217 (insulated BNC connectors at both ends, 1.6 m / 5.25 ft) is required and is ordered separately.

Important: Use the CT9900 (PL23 to ME15W) or CT9901 (ME15W to PL23) conversion cable to adapt between connector types.
