The A6304XL is a clamp-on AC/DC current probe with a –3 dB bandwidth of DC to 2 MHz, designed for use with the AM 503B and AM 5030 current probe amplifiers. It measures currents to 500 A (DC + peak AC) continuous and up to 700 A peak while not exceeding the Ampere-second rating. The probe does not need to be matched to a dedicated amplifier for operation or calibration, though it will only be recognized by the AM 503B and AM 5030 amplifiers.

A current probe clamps around a conductor to measure the current flowing through it without breaking the circuit. The A6304XL's jaw opens and closes with a slide mechanism, allowing it to be placed around a conductor under test and then locked closed for measurement. Degaussing and autobalancing, initiated from the amplifier, remove residual core magnetization and DC offsets in the amplifier circuitry that would otherwise introduce measurement error.

Important: Maximum bare wire working voltage: 600 VRMS (CAT II), 300 VRMS (CAT III).
Important: The A6304XL can only be used with the AM 503B and AM 5030 current probe amplifiers and will not be recognized by other current probe amplifiers. A compatible amplifier is required for operation and is not included with the probe.
Important: If the A6304XL is not recognized by your AM 503B or AM 5030, contact your nearest Tektronix Service Center concerning an amplifier firmware upgrade.
Important: When the probe slides are open, the exposed ferrite core pieces are not insulated. Remove power from an uninsulated wire before clamping the current probe around it.
Important: Do not connect or disconnect a current probe while the probe is clamped around a live conductor or while the Amplifier is powered on, or the probe may suffer electrical damage.
Important: Handle current probes with care. Do not drop a probe or subject it to impact, or the core may crack.
Important: Always degauss the probe after measuring a current that exceeds the maximum continuous current, maximum pulsed current, or Ampere-second product rating of the probe.
