Teledyne LeCroy current probes measure current without requiring the breaking of a circuit or the insertion of a shunt. Based on a combination of Hall effect and transformer technology, they are designed for making accurate AC, DC, and impulse current measurements, and connect to the oscilloscope through the Teledyne LeCroy ProBus interface for automatic scaling in A/div.
A current probe clamps around a conductor to measure the current flowing through it and reproduces that current as a waveform on an oscilloscope, letting an engineer observe amplitude, timing, and shape without interrupting the circuit under test. Teledyne LeCroy current probes are available in a variety of models for a wide range of applications and are often used in the design and test of switching power supplies, motor drives, electric vehicles, and uninterruptible power supplies.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. Every used unit is inspected and functionally verified in-house before it ships, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received — so you get the right instrument in the condition you expect, backed by people who know the equipment.
LeCroy Corporation was acquired by Teledyne Technologies in 2012, after which the test and measurement business has operated under the Teledyne LeCroy name. LeCroy Corporation was founded in 1964.
Teledyne LeCroy current probes are offered in a variety of models spanning a wide range of applications. The full range includes models with bandwidths up to 100 MHz, peak currents up to 700 A, and sensitivities to 1 mA/div, all sharing the ProBus active probe interface and the same Hall-effect and transformer measurement approach.
Each model in the family is matched to a different combination of current capacity and bandwidth, from lower-current high-bandwidth probes for fast signals to high-current probes for power applications. The comparison table below lists the per-model electrical and general characteristics so you can match a probe to your current range, bandwidth, and sensitivity requirements.
Each pre-owned model linked below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Select the specific model that fits your measurement requirements to see its availability and price.
The models differ primarily in maximum continuous input current (30 Arms, 150 Arms, and 500 Arms), bandwidth (from 2 MHz up to 100 MHz), peak current (50 Apeak, 500 Apeak, and 700 Apeak), and minimum sensitivity (10 mA/div, 100 mA/div, or 1 mA/div on the high-sensitivity models). Rise time and cable length also vary by model.
The CP030A and CP031A add 1 mA/div minimum sensitivity and a 1 V/A output range alongside the standard 0.1 V/A, with an associated offset range, where the base CP030 and CP031 do not. Refer to the comparison table that follows for each model's exact values, including the long-cable CP030-3M and CP150-6M variants noted as not EMC compliant.
| Model | Max Continuous Current | Bandwidth | Max Peak Current |
|---|---|---|---|
| CP150 | 150 Arms | 10 MHz | 500 Apeak |
| CP030 | 30 Arms | 50 MHz | 50 Apeak |
| CP030 | 30 Arms | 10 MHz | 50 Apeak |
| CP030A | 30 Arms | 50 MHz | 50 Apeak |
Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Important: Note: the 3 m CP030-3M and 6 m CP150-6M long-cable versions are not EMC compliant.
Important: Teledyne LeCroy current probes are powered through the Teledyne LeCroy ProBus connection and require a compatible Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscope with a ProBus interface; they are not standalone instruments.
Important: CP03x, CP150, and CP500 probes (and long-cable versions of these) are compatible with any Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscope with a ProBus interface running firmware version 4.3.1.1 or greater.
Important: Teledyne LeCroy current probes are powered through the ProBus connection and require no additional hardware, but they must be used with a Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscope that has a ProBus interface: CP03x, CP150, and CP500 probes (and their long-cable versions) require firmware version 4.3.1.1 or greater; CP03xA probes require X-Stream firmware version 7.8.x.x or later (compatible families include WaveSurfer Xs-A, MXs/MXs-A/MXs-B and 10, HDO4000/6000/8000/9000, MDA800, HRO/WaveRunner 6 Zi, WaveRunner 8000 and Xi/MXi families, WavePro/SDA/DDA 7 Zi, WaveMaster/SDA/DDA 8 Zi, and LabMaster 9 Zi-A).
Important: CP03xA probes (CP030A and CP031A) are compatible with most Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscopes with a ProBus interface running X-Stream firmware version 7.8.x.x or later; WavePro 7000/7000A and WaveSurfer Xs series have additional Windows XP Professional / firmware upgrade requirements (contact your local service center regarding upgrades).
Important: The DCS025 deskew calibration source provides time-aligned voltage and current signals for precise probe deskew; most voltage probes along with the 30, 150 and 500 A current probes are compatible with the DCS025. It is ordered separately and is not included with the probes.
