The Agilent 83236B PCS Interface is a cellular-to-PCS frequency translator that extends the measurement capabilities of Agilent's 800 MHz test sets into the PCS frequency band. When combined with Agilent TDMA and CDMA RF test sets, the 83236B provides a PCS-band test solution for both PCS phones and cell sites, building on the established 8920B Option 800 TDMA Mobile Test Set and 8924E CDMA Mobile Station Service Test Set platforms.

The 83236B is designed for testing TDMA and CDMA PCS subscriber units and base stations. The frequency translation covers three regional PCS allocations in a single instrument: the International band (1710–1880 MHz), the Korean band (1715–1870 MHz), and the North American band (1850–1990 MHz). The internal power meter supports measurements on CW, CDMA, and TDMA (π/4 pulsed or continuous) signal formats, matching the modulation types used by the host test sets.

ValueTronics International has specialized in test and measurement equipment since 1992, and the Agilent 83236B is the kind of instrument where our model fits especially well. PCS-band test systems built around the 8920B and 8924E platforms are still in active service for legacy network maintenance and subscriber equipment work, and finding a verified 83236B with its specific connector set, calibration history, and host test set compatibility confirmed is exactly what we do. Every unit moves through our 20,000 square foot facility at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, where our technicians verify operation against the published Agilent specification before it ships.

Brand Heritage

Hewlett-Packard's test and measurement division was spun off as Agilent Technologies in 1999, and Agilent's electronic measurement business was further separated as Keysight Technologies in 2014. Instruments carrying the Agilent name, including the 83236B, are part of this lineage and remain supported through the Keysight service infrastructure for many legacy product lines.

Important: Requires an external 10 MHz reference for specified operation. Maximum applied power at the RF IN/OUT connector is 40 dBm (10 W) for single-carrier TDMA and FM, 37 dBm (5 W) for CDMA subscriber unit test, and 30 dBm (1 W) for CDMA and multi-carrier base station test. Maximum peak instantaneous signal is 30 V. RF OUT Only reverse power protection is 200 mW CW max.Important: For proper operation, this instrument must be locked to an external 10 MHz reference.Important: To meet generator output path specifications, the input signal must be from the Test Set with the following characteristics: Frequency Range 810 MHz to 995 MHz; Level Range -70 dBm to -7 dBm.Important: An external trigger signal is required for TDMA RF input level range -13 dBm to -5 dBm (EXT TRIG IN, TTL, positive edge).Important: RF OUT Only Reverse Power Protection: 200 mW CW max — do not exceed this reverse power.Important: When tested at 3 V/m according to IEC 801-3/1984, the output level accuracy will be within specifications over the full immunity test frequency range of 26 to 1000 MHz except when the analyzer frequency is identical to the transmitted interference signal test frequency.Important: The 83236B is a frequency translator and must be combined with an Agilent 800 MHz test set (8920B Option 800 TDMA Mobile Test Set or 8924E CDMA Mobile Station Service Test Set); it is not a standalone tester.Designed for use with the Agilent 8920B Option 800 TDMA Mobile Test Set and the Agilent 8924E CDMA Mobile Station Service Test Set per the datasheet's stated configuration.
