The Fluke 5520A is a multi-product calibrator designed to calibrate a broad range of electronic test and measurement instruments from a single workstation. The 5520A consolidates DC and AC voltage, DC and AC current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, temperature (thermocouple and RTD), and DC and AC power sourcing into one instrument, with two-channel output capability for power and phase applications. The 5500A is the companion model in the family, with a similar functional footprint at reduced output ranges in several functions.
A calibrator of this class is the reference instrument behind a calibration laboratory. Where a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, clamp meter, or power analyzer measures an unknown signal, a multi-product calibrator sources a known, traceable signal that the meter under test is verified against. The 5520A and 5500A are two members of Fluke's multi-product calibrator family, sharing the same chassis, the same operator interface, the same IEEE-488 and RS-232 interfaces, and the same overall set of functions — DC and AC voltage, DC and AC current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, thermocouple and RTD temperature simulation, and DC and AC power. The datasheet presents them side-by-side because most calibration laboratories evaluating one model are also evaluating the other.
The 5520A is the higher-performance member of the pair, with tighter absolute uncertainty on most ranges, higher current output (20.5A vs. 10.9999A), broader resistance range (to 1.1 GΩ vs. 330 MΩ), broader capacitance range (to 110 mF vs. 1.1 mF), and a wider AC voltage frequency range in dual-output mode (30 kHz vs. 10 kHz). The 5500A targets a slightly different price/performance point and supports the external 5725A Amplifier for current and high-voltage extension.

The 5520A is described in the datasheet as the high-performance multi-product calibrator in the pair, with the wider current range (to 20.5A), the wider resistance range (to 1.1 GΩ), the wider capacitance range (to 110 mF), and the tighter absolute uncertainty specifications across most functions. Pressure module support via the FLUKE-700PCK kit is listed under the 5520A, not the 5500A.
The most visible differences between the 5520A and the 5500A are in the headline output ranges. DC current goes to 20.5A on the 5520A versus 10.9999A on the 5500A. Resistance extends to 1.1 GΩ on the 5520A versus 330 MΩ on the 5500A. Capacitance extends to 110 mF on the 5520A versus 1.1 mF on the 5500A.
The 5500A supports the 5725A Amplifier as an external accessory to extend high-current AC output to 11A and high-voltage AC output to 750V (with specifications listed separately in the AC voltage and AC current tables). The 5520A is listed with pressure module compatibility through the FLUKE-700PCK kit and the FLUKE-700P-series modules, which the 5500A is not.
