The Agilent B2902A Precision Source/Measure Unit is a two-channel bench-top SMU that integrates the capabilities of a current source, voltage source, current meter, and voltage meter into a single instrument. As part of the B2900A Series, it combines source and measurement functions with the ability to switch between them, eliminating the need for multiple discrete instruments when characterizing devices that require coordinated stimulus and measurement.

The B2902A is designed for testing semiconductors, active and passive components, and a variety of other devices and materials. Its application range spans R&D and education through industrial development, test, and manufacturing environments. The instrument operates equally well as a standalone bench instrument or as a component in a larger automated test system, supported by LXI Class C compliance and a full complement of programming interfaces.

ValueTronics has supplied test and measurement equipment to engineers, laboratories, and manufacturers since 1992. All inventory ships from our 20,000 square foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, where our technicians inspect, test, and grade every {{CONDITION}} unit before it leaves the facility. Unlike drop-ship resellers or pass-through brokers, ValueTronics maintains physical possession of the instruments we sell, which means condition reports reflect what our team actually measured rather than what a third party claimed.

Brand Heritage

The B2900A Series was introduced under the Agilent Technologies brand. Agilent's electronic measurement business was transferred to Keysight Technologies in 2014, and Keysight continues to support and manufacture instruments from this product family. Buyers may encounter the same units branded as either Agilent or Keysight depending on the manufacturing date.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The Agilent B2900A Series consists of four models that share the same 210 V / 3 A DC / 10.5 A pulsed output envelope and the same 31.8 W maximum output power, but differ in channel count, source resolution, measurement resolution, minimum programmable timing interval, and supported display view modes. All four models share the same 4.3-inch color TFT display, the same LXI Class C / USB 2.0 / GPIB / LAN / digital I/O interface set, and the same SCPI programming environment with default and conventional command sets.

The family is structured so that the choice between models is driven by three independent decisions: whether one or two SMU channels are required, whether 5½-digit source resolution (1 μV / 1 pA minimum) is sufficient or 6½-digit source resolution (100 nV / 10 fA minimum) is required, and whether the 20 μs minimum programmable interval of the B2901A/B2902A is acceptable or the 10 μs interval of the B2911A/B2912A is needed for higher-speed list sweep, AWG, and digitizing applications.

Each pre-owned model in the B2900A Series is listed on its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing and availability. The comparison table below summarizes the differences between models so the correct selection can be made before navigating to the individual model page.

The B2902A is the two-channel model in the lower-resolution tier of the B2900A Series. It pairs the same 210 V / 3 A DC / 10.5 A pulsed output capability of the single-channel B2901A with a second independent SMU channel, and it adds Dual view to the display mode set so both channels can be monitored simultaneously on the front panel. Source resolution is specified at 1 μV / 1 pA minimum and measurement resolution at 100 nV / 100 fA minimum. The minimum programmable interval for list sweep and AWG waveform generation is 20 μs, and the maximum sample rate for digitizing is 50,000 points per second.

Within the B2900A Series, the B2901A and B2902A share the 5½-digit source resolution tier (1 μV / 1 pA minimum source resolution, 100 fA minimum current measurement resolution) and the 20 μs minimum programmable interval. The B2911A and B2912A share the 6½-digit source resolution tier (100 nV / 10 fA minimum source resolution, 10 fA minimum current measurement resolution), the 10 μs minimum programmable interval, and add the Roll view display mode. Within each tier, the lower model number is a single-channel instrument and the higher model number is the two-channel instrument that also adds Dual view.

All four models share the same maximum output ratings, the same 6½-digit maximum measurement resolution at the instrument level, the same interface complement, and the same software ecosystem including the Quick I/V Measurement Software, IVI-COM drivers, and the built-in web server. The comparison table that follows shows the specific spec differences side by side.

Model Channels Max Voltage Max Current (DC/Pulsed)
B2901A 1 210 V 3.03 A DC / 10.5 A pulsed
B2902A 2 210 V 3.03 A DC / 10.5 A pulsed
B2911A 1 210 V 3.03 A DC / 10.5 A pulsed
B2912A 2 210 V 3.03 A DC / 10.5 A pulsed

Important: Maximum DC floating voltage between the Low Force terminal and chassis ground is ±250 V DC. When operating both channels simultaneously on the 21 V/1.515 A or 6 V/3.03 A ranges, total current across the two channels is limited per the maximum current limitation table in the datasheet.Important: Specifications apply under the following conditions: Temperature 23 °C ± 5 °C; Humidity 30 % to 80 % RH; after 60 minutes warm-up; ambient temperature change less than ±3 °C after self-calibration execution; calibration period 1 year; measurement speed 1 PLC.Important: Max current limitation: For 21 V/1.515 A and 6 V/3.03 A ranges, total max current is limited when using 2 channels. Max current is not limited for using 1 channel only.Important: 10 nA range is not available for the B2901A/B2902A.Important: 10 A range is available only for pulse mode, not available for DC mode.Important: Roll view mode is available only for the B2911A/B2912A.Important: Dual view mode is available only for the B2902A/B2912A.Important: Triaxial connections are recommended for sourcing and measuring less than 1 nA. A banana jack to triaxial adapter (N1294A-001 or N1294A-002) is available for low current measurement and is ordered separately.Important: Safety interlock: One active high pin and one active low pin. Activation of both pins is required to enable output voltage > 42 V.Important: Test fixture (N1295A) and interlock cables (N1294A-011/-012) are sold separately as accessories and may be required for safe operation above 42 V or for device/component testing.Recommended pairing: the N1295A Device/Component Test Fixture is listed in the datasheet's accessory section for component-level testing with the B2900A Series. For low-current sourcing and measurement below 1 nA, the N1294A-001 (2-wire) or N1294A-002 (4-wire Kelvin) Banana-to-Triaxial Adapter is recommended.
