The Agilent 4287A is a high performance RF LCR meter designed for production line testing of devices such as SMD inductors and EMI filters, where impedance testing at high frequencies is required. The instrument covers a test frequency range of 1 MHz to 3 GHz with 100 kHz resolution and offers measurement parameters including |Z|, θz, |Y|, θy, X, G, B, Ls, Lp, Cs, Cp, Rs, Rp, Q, and D with five-digit display resolution. The 4287A uses the RF I-V measurement method, which measures the current flowing through the device under test and the voltage applied across it, enabling accurate characterization over the full 1 MHz to 3 GHz range.
The 4287A is built for production line testing of RF SMD inductors and EMI filters, research and development of next-generation passive components, and reliable quality control of wireless communication equipment components. The instrument supports automated component handler integration through its opto-isolated handler interface, and the small test head with 1 m test cable extends the measurement plane to the handler stage without introducing additional error. The multi-function comparator with 13 bins and four limit values per bin supports bin sorting workflows where conditions such as frequency and measurement parameters can be set independently in each column.
Agilent Technologies was spun out of Hewlett-Packard in 1999 when HP separated its test and measurement business from its computing business. In 2014, Agilent split again, with the electronic measurement instruments business — including the 4287A product line — transferring to Keysight Technologies. Instruments carrying the Agilent brand on their front panels are part of the same engineering lineage as today's Keysight Technologies products.
