The HP 3437A System Voltmeter is a microprocessor-controlled, 3½-digit successive approximation voltmeter designed for system-level data acquisition applications requiring high sampling rates. The instrument samples voltages at rates up to 5,700 samples per second and provides chassis-isolated input terminals, a wideband input amplifier, auto-zero, auto-polarity, sample and hold, and 100% overrange on each of three voltage ranges (0.1 volt, 1 volt, and 10 volt). Floating measurement capability (±20 V) is supported over the frequency range of DC through 1.0 MHz on the 10V range.

Applications listed for the 3437A include fast multipoint data acquisition, repetitive-waveform analysis, low-frequency transient characterization, and low-frequency true RMS measurements. Additional system measurement applications cover waveform analysis (harmonic content, amplitude characteristics) and transient characterization. The instrument is positioned for bench measurements such as variable sample-rate DVM operation, oscilloscope accuracy enhancement (time-selective DVM), delay generation, and burst trigger generation.

ValueTronics International tests, stocks, and ships every unit out of our 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive, Elgin, Illinois. Operating since 1992 and serving over 35,000 customers with more than 8,000 units in stock across 28 authorized new equipment partners and over 90 legacy brands, we provide a level of inventory depth and verification rigor that drop-shippers and pass-through brokers cannot match. Each instrument is professionally evaluated before listing — not merely forwarded from a third-party warehouse.

Brand Heritage

The 3437A was originally manufactured by Hewlett-Packard. HP's test and measurement business was spun out as Agilent Technologies in 1999, and Agilent's electronic measurement business subsequently became Keysight Technologies in 2014. Calibration support and service documentation for legacy HP test instruments routes through the Keysight service network where it remains available.

Important: Maximum input voltage: ±30 V peak (HI to LO, all ranges); ±42 V peak (LO to chassis).
Important: External trigger inputs exceeding TTL levels (0 to 5 V) may cause damage to the 3437A's external trigger input circuitry. The Performance Test trigger interface (-hp- 34113A) is useful for clamping bipolar triggers to within TTL levels.
Important: Verify that the 110 V/220 V Line Voltage Selection switch on the rear panel is set to the AC source voltage to be used before inserting the power cord and turning the instrument on. Also insure that the proper fuse is installed.
Important: Maximum Input Voltage: HI to LO < ±30 V Peak; LO to CHASSIS < ±42 V Peak (all ranges).
Important: Display will indicate overload if input is unterminated (0.1 volt range).
