The Anritsu MG3690C is an RF/microwave signal generator family covering 0.1 Hz to 67 GHz across six base models, with operation to 70 GHz on the MG3697C and banded extension to 500 GHz through the optional 2000-1694 series millimeter-wave multipliers. The series is described by Anritsu as offering frequency coverage, phase noise, leveled output power, spectral purity, switching speed, modulation performance, size, upgradeability, reliability, and service suited to applications spanning R&D, manufacturing, and depot repair.

Signal generators of this class create the precise, known stimulus signals required to characterize RF and microwave components, simulate communication or radar waveforms, and drive devices under test in receiver sensitivity, intermodulation, and component characterization measurements. The MG3690C supports CW, phase-locked step sweep, list sweep with up to 2000 non-sequential frequency/power sets per table, manual sweep, alternate sweep between two ranges, and—with Option 6—analog sweep across the full frequency range with 30 ms to 99 second sweep times.

Buyers who choose ValueTronics work with a direct supplier rather than a drop-shipper or pass-through broker, with named contacts available for technical questions, calibration coordination, and post-sale support.

Brand Heritage

Anritsu Corporation is a Japanese precision measurement company with roots extending to 1895. Its current RF and microwave instrument portfolio was significantly shaped by the 1990 acquisition of Wiltron Company, which brought network analyzer and microwave signal generator technology and a North American commercial presence into the Anritsu family. Legacy Wiltron instruments are now part of the Anritsu lineage and continue to be supported through Anritsu's service organization.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The MG3690C family consists of six base models that share a common front panel, software platform, and option ecosystem but differ in their upper frequency limit and maximum output power. All six models cover a 2 GHz lower limit as standard; Options 4 and 5 extend the low end to 8 MHz, and Option 22 extends coverage down to 0.1 Hz using Direct Digital Synthesis. The MG3691C, MG3692C, MG3693C, and MG3694C use a K(f) output connector; the MG3695C and MG3697C use a V(f) connector.

Model selection is driven primarily by the highest frequency required for the application. The MG3697C operates to 67 GHz and is operational to 70 GHz, with millimeter-wave multipliers extending banded coverage as high as 500 GHz. Output power decreases at higher frequencies and on higher-frequency models, and is recovered through the High Power Option 15 when available bandwidth and budget allow.

Each model in the MG3690C family is listed as its own product page with condition-matched pricing. Whether you are evaluating a pre-owned unit at a specific model and frequency tier, or comparing models to find the right frequency coverage for your application, each page describes the configuration, specifications, and available options for that specific model.

The six models differ in maximum frequency coverage and corresponding maximum leveled output power. The MG3691C (2 GHz to 10 GHz) and MG3692C (2 GHz to 20 GHz) provide +19 dBm and +17 dBm respectively at their upper bands. The MG3693C (2 GHz to 31.8 GHz) and MG3694C (2 GHz to 40 GHz) provide +9 dBm above 20 GHz. The MG3695C (2 GHz to 50 GHz) delivers +6 dBm above 20 GHz and +3 dBm above 40 GHz.

Refer to the comparison table for full per-model power, frequency, and connector specifications. Option availability also varies: Option 7 (IF Up-Conversion) is not available on the MG3695C or MG3697C. Several Option 15 (High Power) variants exist with configuration-dependent suffixes (15A, 15B, 15C, 15D).

Model Frequency Range Output Type Max Output Power
MG3697C 2 GHz to 67 GHz V(f) +10 dBm
MG3691C 2 GHz to 10 GHz K(f) +19 dBm
MG3692C 2 GHz to 20 GHz K(f) +19 dBm
MG3693C 2 GHz to 31.8 GHz K(f) +15 dBm

Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Important: Several option combinations are mutually exclusive due to shared rear panel space. Options 7 and 18, Options 7 and 20, and Options 8 and 9 cannot be ordered together. Options 4 and 5 cannot be ordered together. Options 3, 3X, and 3XA cannot be ordered together. Option 36 requires Option 3, 3X, or 3XA. Option 27 requires at least one of Options 12, 14, or 26. Verify the full option configuration matrix before placing an order.Important: Frequency coverage beyond 70 GHz requires the millimeter-wave multiplier 2000-1694 series (sold separately). These external multipliers require at a minimum, an MG3692C with 20 GHz coverage.Important: Phase noise is specified and guaranteed only with internal reference. In External Reference mode, the phase noise of the externally supplied reference and the selected external reference bandwidth will dictate the instrument phase noise performance.Important: For output power with Option 22 (0.1 Hz to 10 MHz coverage), derate all output power specifications by 2 dB.Important: Option 22: No modulation is available in the 0.1 Hz to 10 MHz band. Frequency resolution below 10 MHz is 0.02 Hz.Important: Several options are mutually exclusive, including: (Option 7 and 18), (Option 7 and 20), (Option 8 and 9), (Options 3, 3X, and 3XA), (Options 4 and 5), and (Option 15 and 20). Refer to Option Configuration Guide before ordering combinations.Important: Instruments disconnected from AC line power for more than 72 hours require 30 days to return to specified frequency stability with aging.Important: Internal LF and Pulse Generators (Option 27) can only be ordered in combination with either FM/ΦM (Option 12), AM (Option 14), or Pulse (Option 26).Recommended pairing: Option 7 (IF Up-Conversion, available on MG3691C through MG3694C) is intended for use with a lower-frequency IQ-modulated source such as the Anritsu MG3700A. The MG3700A's modulated output feeds the MG3690C's IF port, with the MG3690C's microwave output driving the LO port, producing an up-converted modulated signal at the RF port up to 40 GHz.
