The Comtech PST AM and AR Series are solid state linear amplifiers covering RF and microwave frequencies. The AM Series consists of module-level amplifiers operating from 20 MHz to 2 GHz with output power from 2 to 100 W at 1 dB compression, while the AM Wireless variant addresses the 800 MHz to 3 GHz cellular and wireless bands at 10 to 50 W. The AR Series places the same AM amplifier modules into a rack-mountable chassis with a built-in universal AC power supply and forced-air cooling, extending the output power range up to 250 W (AR General Purpose) and 300 W (AR Wireless). The series accepts CW, AM, FM, Phase and Pulse Modulation input signals.

These amplifiers serve laboratory and system-integration applications that require linear RF power across multi-octave bandwidths. The AM module form factor suits OEM integration and bench use where the integrator supplies DC power. The AR rack-mount form factor suits standalone laboratory and production use, with universal AC mains input (100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz for models up to 100 W; 200–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz three-phase for models above 100 W) and an optional IEEE-488 remote interface (ARD version) for automated test environments. The AR Wireless rack units also offer Ethernet, RS-232, and IEEE-488 digital interfaces along with remote on/off and rack mounting slides as options.

ValueTronics International stocks and ships Comtech PST AM and AR Series amplifiers from our 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. Every unit that enters our inventory is logged, inspected, and held under environmental control until it ships, and our team can answer specific configuration questions on individual models in the family — output power level, gain class, connector type, and AC input phase configuration on AR rack units — before you commit to a purchase order. This is the difference between sourcing through ValueTronics and ordering from a pass-through broker who never sees the equipment.

Brand Heritage

Comtech PST is the solid state RF power amplifier business unit of Comtech Telecommunications Corporation. The PST designation traces to Power Systems Technology, the original company that became part of Comtech's RF power product portfolio.

Compare Other Models in This Series

The Comtech PST AM and AR Series share a common amplifier core and differ primarily in form factor and integration level. The AM Series is the module-level product — an OEM amplifier requiring external DC supply and integration into the customer's chassis. The AR Series is the rack-mountable system product, packaging the same AM amplifier electronics together with a built-in universal AC power supply and forced-air cooling in a 19-inch rack chassis. Within each series, models are differentiated by frequency range (General Purpose 20 MHz–2 GHz versus Wireless Band 800 MHz–3 GHz), output power level at 1 dB compression, and gain class.

The series covers a wide capability ladder: low-power module variants suit lab signal-chain integration where space and DC power are constrained, while high-power rack-mount variants (up to 250 W General Purpose and 300 W Wireless) suit standalone laboratory use, production test, and system applications where AC mains operation and chassis-level thermal management are required. Each model below is its own product page — review the per-model frequency, output power, gain, and chassis dimensions to confirm fit for your application.

Each pre-owned model below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing, lead-time, and availability. Configuration details — output power class, gain at P1dB, connector type, and AC input requirements on AR rack units — are documented at the per-model level. Use the comparison table that follows to identify the right model for your frequency, output power, and form factor requirements before opening an individual product page.

The principal differences across the AM/AR family fall along three axes. The first is frequency coverage: General Purpose models (AM2758, AM88258, AM8829, AM4819, AM178238, AM17839 and their AR counterparts) operate from 20 MHz to 2 GHz; Wireless Band models (AM/AR variants in the AM Wireless and AR Wireless ranges) operate from 800 MHz to 3 GHz. The second is output power at P1dB, which ranges from 2 W on the smallest AM modules up to 250 W on the AR88258-150 / AR1929-250 and 300 W on the AR88258-300 (Wireless). The third is form factor and AC integration: AM modules require external DC power and are SMA Female terminated; AR rack-mount units include built-in universal AC supplies and use Type N Female RF connectors.

Within each row of the comparison table, the gain class (the third numeric segment of the model number) further differentiates lower-gain from higher-gain variants at the same frequency and output power class. Available options published with the datasheet include noise-quiet variants, custom specifications, and additional frequency ranges, power levels, gains, and connectors beyond those shown in the standard catalog table — contact the sales department for configurations not listed.

Model Frequency (MHz) Power Out P1dB (W) Gain at P1dB (dB min)
AR88258-30 800-2500 30 34

AM2758-25 20-500 25 44
