The Fluke 787B and 789 ProcessMeter combine a safety-rated digital multimeter and a mA loop calibrator into a single compact test tool. Built on the trusted measurement capabilities of the Fluke 87 DMM, the ProcessMeter line adds the ability to measure, source, and simulate mA with the accuracy and resolution expected from a dedicated Fluke mA loop calibrator. Together these capabilities give technicians one instrument for troubleshooting and calibrating current loop applications instead of carrying a separate meter and calibrator.
The ProcessMeter is designed for technicians working on 4-20 mA process control loops. The 20 mA DC current source, measure, and simulate functions support loop calibration and troubleshooting, while the simultaneous mA and % of scale readout lets the technician see both the raw current and the equivalent process variable at the same time. On the 789, the 24 V loop power supply and HART mode setting (which adds a 250 ohm resistor) support work with smart transmitters and HART-enabled devices.
Fluke Corporation has been the recognized standard in handheld digital multimeters and industrial test instruments since its founding in 1948. Fluke is now part of Fortive Corporation following Fortive's 2016 spin-off from Danaher, alongside sibling test and measurement brands including Tektronix. The Fluke brand and its core handheld and process tool lines have continued without interruption through both corporate transitions, and the 787B and 789 ProcessMeter sit in that long product lineage.
The Fluke ProcessMeter family consists of two models — the 787B and the 789 — that share the same digital multimeter platform and the same 20 mA source/measure/simulate capability. Both instruments combine a precision 1000 V, 440 mA true-RMS DMM with mA loop calibrator functions in a single CAT IV 600 V / CAT III 1000 V safety-rated housing, and both are based on the measurement engine of the Fluke 87 DMM.
The two models are distinguished primarily by loop power. The 787B is the meter-plus-calibrator core; the 789 adds a 24 V loop power supply and a HART mode setting that adds an internal 250 ohm resistor. Both models support Fluke Connect wireless data logging through the optional IR3000FC adapter module.
Each ProcessMeter model below is its own product page with new-matched pricing and availability. Specifications, accessories, and capabilities described on this page apply to the model family as documented in the Fluke datasheet; the per-model spec table on each individual product page shows the differences that matter for selection.
The 789 adds two capabilities to the 787B platform: a 24 V loop power supply with greater than 24 V output capability at 250 ohms / 20 mA, and a HART mode setting that engages an internal 250 ohm resistor for HART communication. These additions make the 789 the right choice for technicians who need to power a transmitter from the meter itself, or who regularly work with HART-enabled smart instruments.
If the technician already has a separate 24 V loop supply on the bench or in the field, the 787B provides the same DMM accuracy, the same 20 mA source/measure/simulate capability, and the same CAT IV 600 V / CAT III 1000 V safety rating at a lower price point. The comparison table below shows the specific feature and specification differences between the two models.
| Model | DMM Functions | mA Source/Simulate | 24 V Loop Power Supply |
|---|---|---|---|
| 787B | 1000 V, 440 mA true-rms DMM | 0-20 mA / 4-20 mA, over-range to 24 mA | — |
| 789 | 1000 V, 440 mA true-rms DMM | 0-20 mA / 4-20 mA, over-range to 24 mA | 24 V, 250 ohms @ 20 mA |
