The Rohde & Schwarz R&S SMA100B is an RF and microwave signal generator. Rohde & Schwarz positions it around four design priorities: the purest possible signals, the lowest harmonic and nonharmonic signal components, very high output power, and ergonomic operation. The instrument is built on a configurable platform whose frequency reach, output power, modulation capability, and reference performance are determined by the options installed at order time.

A signal generator produces a known, controllable RF or microwave signal used to stimulate a device under test so its response can be characterized. As a stimulus instrument, the R&S SMA100B is designed to integrate into automated test systems, where its SCPI command set and selectable compatible command sets let it emulate earlier-generation generators without rewriting test software. Optional capabilities extend it to avionics navigation-aid signal generation (VOR, ILS, marker beacon and ADF), to radar-oriented work through chirped-pulse generation and user-defined pulse trains, and to power measurement through R&S NRP power-sensor analysis.

We stock instruments ourselves in a 20,000 square-foot secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois, which lets us control availability and condition directly rather than relaying orders to a third party. Pre-owned units are inspected and functionally verified in-house before they ship, while new units ship factory-sealed, exactly as received from the manufacturer.

Important: An ultra-high-power output option requires the corresponding high-power option to be installed.

Important: The base unit can only be ordered with an R&S®SMAB-B1xx frequency option and an R&S®SMAB-B92 or R&S®SMAB-B93 platform height option. A frequency option and a platform height option are both prerequisites for use.

Important: Only one of the following six reference/phase-noise options can be installed: R&S®SMAB-B1H, R&S®SMAB-B709, R&S®SMAB-B710, R&S®SMAB-B710N, R&S®SMAB-B711, R&S®SMAB-B711N.

Important: RS-232 remote control requires the recommended extra R&S®TS-USB1 USB serial adapter.

Important: All digital inputs and outputs are CMOS 3.3 V unless otherwise noted; the input damage level is below –0.5 V or above +5 V.

Recommended pairing: the optional power analysis function (R&S SMAB-K28) works with R&S NRP-Z81, -Z85, and -Z86 power sensors for pulse and power-versus-time measurements.
