The ZD Series Active Differential Probes from Teledyne LeCroy are active differential probes offered in three bandwidth tiers—500 MHz (ZD500), 1 GHz (ZD1000), and 1.5 GHz (ZD1500). The series provides wide dynamic range, excellent noise and loading performance, and an extensive set of probe tips, leads, and ground accessories to handle a wide range of probing scenarios. A low 1 pF input capacitance makes the probe suitable across all frequencies, and the series delivers full system bandwidth for all Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscopes rated 1.5 GHz and lower.
An active differential probe measures the voltage difference between two points in a circuit while rejecting the common-mode signal shared by both, allowing an engineer to observe signals that are not referenced to ground. The ZD Series is suited to automotive, serial data, power, and general-purpose use. The differential input capacitance of only 1 pF minimizes loading distortion on the highest-frequency signals under test, while low system noise allows accurate measurement of the smallest signals.
ValueTronics stocks and holds its own inventory in a 20,000 sq ft secure warehouse at 1675 Cambridge Drive in Elgin, Illinois. Every pre-owned order ships directly from that facility; used units are inspected and functionally verified in-house before shipment, while new units ship factory-sealed exactly as received from the manufacturer.
LeCroy Corporation was acquired by Teledyne Technologies in 2012 and has since operated under the Teledyne LeCroy brand. The branding on this product line reflects that combined identity.
The ZD Series comprises three active differential probes—the ZD500, ZD1000, and ZD1500—that differ primarily in bandwidth: 500 MHz, 1 GHz, and 1.5 GHz respectively. All three share the same core architecture, including a differential input capacitance below 1.0 pF, an ±8 V differential input range (16 Vp-p), ±10 V common mode range, ±18 V differential offset range, and a 30 V maximum non-destruct voltage.
Across the family, the probes integrate with a Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscope through the ProBus interface, drawing power and exposing transparent gain and offset control without an external supply. The same extensive accessory set—probe tips, leads, and ground accessories—applies family-wide, so the selection decision centers on the bandwidth required for the signals under test.
Each model below is its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing. Select the pre-owned model that matches your required bandwidth tier; the comparison table that follows summarizes how the ZD500, ZD1000, and ZD1500 differ.
The three models separate along bandwidth and the associated risetime. The ZD500 is warranted to 500 MHz (650 MHz typical) with a typical 10–90% risetime of 650 ps; the ZD1000 is warranted to 1 GHz (1200 MHz typical) with a 375 ps risetime; and the ZD1500 is warranted to 1.5 GHz (1700 MHz typical) with a 270 ps risetime. Typical system noise also varies, at 1.3 mVrms for the ZD500 and 1.75 mVrms for the ZD1000 and ZD1500.
Shared specifications—input differential range, offset range, common mode range, input capacitance, and non-destruct voltage—do not differ across the tiers. The comparison table that follows details the per-model bandwidth, risetime, and noise figures so the correct tier can be matched to the application.
| Model | Bandwidth (Warranted) | Bandwidth (Typical) | Risetime (10–90%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| ZD1000 | 1000 MHz | 1200 MHz | 375 ps |
| ZD1500 | 1500 MHz | 1700 MHz | 270 ps |
| ZD500 | 500 MHz | 650 MHz | 650 ps |
Additional differences in specifications beyond the few shown above are not listed here — see each model's full specifications below.

Important: Maximum non-destruct voltage: 30 V (nominal).
Important: When used with a Teledyne LeCroy digital oscilloscope, no external power supply is required (ProBus interface).
Important: Provides full system bandwidth for all Teledyne LeCroy oscilloscopes 1.5 GHz and lower.
Important: Teledyne LeCroy probes are warranted for one year (digital oscilloscopes are warranted for three years). Warranty includes no charge for return shipping, long-term 7-year support, and upgrade to latest software at no charge.
Usage tip: use the Small IC Adapter (PACC-ZD006) for excellent signal fidelity when probing IC pins—one side of each blade is insulated to prevent shorting to an adjacent pin.
