The Keysight U2701A and U2702A are USB modular oscilloscopes built into a package roughly the size of a typical novel, each operating either as a standalone instrument connected directly to a PC or as a module inside the U2781A USB modular product chassis. The U2701A provides 100 MHz of bandwidth and the U2702A provides 200 MHz, and both deliver two-channel simultaneous acquisition over a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connection with plug-and-play setup.
Designed to travel in a bag alongside a laptop, the series brings powerful test capability to portable troubleshooting of electronic products and processes where carrying a bulky transit case is impractical. Through the USB Modular Oscilloscope App within BenchVue, the instrument captures and annotates screen images, records trace data, logs measurements, and provides the insight needed to detect glitches or bugs in signals.

Keysight Technologies traces its measurement heritage through Hewlett-Packard, whose test-and-measurement business was spun off as Agilent Technologies in 1999. That measurement business was then established as the independent Keysight Technologies in 2014.
The USB modular oscilloscope line comprises two models that share an identical compact form factor — about the size of a typical novel — and the same dual-play design that lets each unit run as a standalone PC-connected instrument or as a module in the U2781A USB modular product chassis. The U2701A is the 100 MHz model and the U2702A is the 200 MHz model.
Across both models the architecture is common: two-channel simultaneous acquisition, up to 1 GSa/s sampling, 32 Mpts of standard waveform memory, 8-bit vertical resolution, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 with USBTMC 488.2 control, and the included BenchVue software. The models differ primarily in bandwidth and in the matched passive probe specified for each.
Each model below is listed on its own dedicated product page with condition-matched pricing for the new unit. Choose the model whose bandwidth fits your application to see current availability and pricing.
The defining difference between the two models is analog bandwidth: the U2701A is specified DC to 100 MHz and the U2702A DC to 200 MHz, corresponding to a calculated rise time of 3.5 ns on the U2701A versus 1.75 ns on the U2702A. The AC-coupled passband likewise extends to 100 MHz and 200 MHz respectively.
Each model is also matched to a different standard probe specification — a 10:1 150 MHz passive probe (N2862A) for the U2701A and a 10:1 300 MHz passive probe (N2863A) for the U2702A. Sample rate, memory depth, vertical resolution, triggering, and connectivity are shared across both models; see the comparison table for the per-model values.
| Model | Bandwidth | Calculated Rise Time | Max Sample Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| U2702A | 200 MHz | 1.75 ns | 1 GSa/s |
| U2701A | 100 MHz | 3.5 ns | 1 GSa/s |

Important: Standalone use is limited to CAT I 30 Vrms (42 Vpk). High-voltage measurement up to CAT I 300 Vrms requires installing the L-Mount kit before inserting the module into the product chassis, using the 10:1 probes (N2862A/N2863A).
Important: The 10:1 passive probes (N2862A for the U2701A, N2863A for the U2702A) are listed as optional accessories in the ordering information and are not part of the base model order code; the appropriate probe must be ordered separately, and it is required for high-voltage measurements per the datasheet.
Important: All specifications are warranted and are valid after a 30-minute warm-up and within ±10 °C of the last calibration temperature; all characteristics are typical performance values, are not warranted, and are valid after a 30-minute warm-up and within ±10 °C of the last calibration temperature.
Important: USBTMC-USB488 / Hi-Speed USB 2.0 operation is compatible with Microsoft Windows operating systems only and requires a direct USB connection to the PC so the appropriate driver can be installed in the USB modular instrument.
Recommended pairing: install the module in the U2781A USB Modular Product Chassis for channel expansion, multiple-instrument synchronization, and a shared internal or external 10 MHz reference clock.
